arriving
…to pandorapress.net, the new home of whatever it was that went on at the old one. We trust you enjoyed your flight. Pour a whiskey, make fists with your toes, and get chatting with the locals. You’ve arrived.

  1. woohoo first post on the new site, lookin good btw!

  2. I second that! :)

    Hello everyone.

  3. Ah new fresh air

  4. You should make a redirect from the old site to the new site. This is understood by google as “page has moved” and all google-score will be moved with it.

    Put in .htaccess

    RedirectMatch 301 /index.php(.*) http://pandorapress.net/

or if you cannot edit .htaccess, then google for redirect 301

  5. or perhaps instead of index.php you should write some other address. Maybe even just a *

  6. (this comment didn’t appear, I’ll try again)

    • Sorry, the spam plugin tried to eat a bunch of comments. It’s still learning, but it’ll get better :)

      • That was my guess. Sorry for posting this 5 times :) Are you going to make such redirect?

  7. hm, why my comment about redirect 301 from old site, to new site doesn’t appear here? Is there some limit od comment lenght, or containing URLs, or .htaccess ?

Google for redirect 301 to do this.

  9. Mission accomplished! :D

    Cosurgi: what

  10. Wooho…

    ..

this looks the same: i feel like Colon when he found the new way to the Indias. XD

  11. great…i can’t get to gp32x at work, now i can’t get to pandorapress at work. what am i supposed to do now, work?

  12. Hmm,not quite the new i was expecting :S

  13. I was trying to give hints about how to do this permanent redirection. But apparently including URLS and words like dot-htaccess (without spoofing like here) got this message filtered out. In a comment below (if it will succeed to appear I’ll tell you what to put in a file dot-htaccess)

  14. RedirectMatch 301 /(.*) http://pandorapress.net/

  15. Hey, the old RSS feed would also give me the # of comments on the blog post. Could you add that back in?

  16. Are we there yet?

  17. Finally a place where we can really truly say what’s on our minds…
    :)

  18. Hey whats the channel for the IRC chatroom (I don’t like using that Java chat)? Is it #openpandora on chat.freenode.net?

  19. Woo! Pandorapress.net!

Looks good – just like home in fact.

  20. Uh… where’s the chat button? I can’t find it

  21. Kyo: we have to develop and beta test the chat button. Alpha version of chat button is text-only: http://pandorapress.net/chat/

Cosurgi: The old blog uses WordPress.com as a hosting provider, which only allows blogs (no redirects IIRC).

  23. Oh wow, finally September 10th has come. I wonder if there are already pictures of the mould online…

Wait, did you just ADD ANOTHER WEEK ONTO THAT DAMN MOULD CREATION STEP AT THE ROADMAP???

    • Yes I did. As indicated by the part where I wrote “an arbitrary week has been added.” As with any post on the blog, please follow the source links and read the official posts – don’t just look at my estimates and treat them as the gospel. The 10th was an optimistic guess, and the fact that it’s taking a bit longer does not mean there are any problems.

      • So whose words should we believe in then?

  24. I mean, this can’t be true, the other two items don’t even haven ESTIMATED date yet, and the only date we have gets silently pushed into the future while the customers are still drooling over the threaded reply functions of some blog?!

    • “unofficial roadmap”

      • Then show me an official roadmap.

        • Don’t bother, I have already found an official roadmap myself. It says something abou January and February 2009, though!

“But, oh well, we did learn a lot – and now, after 2,5 years designing the system, the end of the trip is coming to an end. All thanks to you guys! Without your support, all this wouldn’t have been possible!
Stay tuned for final prototype pics within this month!

          So, here is a mini-roadmap:
          * Case Design: January 15th
          * Case Prototyping: approx. 1-2 weeks later
          * Final production and delivery: approx. 2 – 4 weeks later”

          • Yes yes, very clever. No need to remind us of the delays we’ve had so far. Everyone with money in the first batch is acutely aware of them.

  25. I know that I and thousands of others would still fall for it even if the Pandora was a scam, but sometimes I just wish it at least wouldn’t look so obviously like one:

“Invest invest invest, in the first batch! We need your money to get started but once we pick up, there will be lots of batches and profit for you!”

“Unfortunately things weren’t going as smooth as they should have, and we suffered from unforeseeable economical blows and other ill fortune. So we need a little extra money from our late customers, and therefore we decided to raise the entry fee a bit (+50 euro). But with the help of this money, profit surely will be done!”

“Unfortunately things are still going much slower than predicted and there wasn’t really any profit to distribute to you in the last business year. But we are glad to announce that if you still decide to keep sticking with the deal, the profits will be much larger too! If you have faith in us till the very end, you will get 256MB, 120Mhz and 200mAh more out of the deal than you expected by the time you made your first investion!”

Sounds like the worst of the worst of all scams to me, yet I still can’t stop believing/buying into it. So just take the above as a bad joke or something…

  26. 1) There was no profit aimed at the original buyers. We’re not investors, we’re customers. We get an item we paid for, but later than previously promised. You get no shares, no dividends, no $$ back. Only a Pandora.

    2) The $50 more is only for people who buy into the second batch. If they still have first-batch preorders available, then I believe they’re still at the original price.

    • @Anon

“We get an item we paid for…”

      Do we?

      ..

      • Soon enough

        • proof?

      • I think the spambot ate my reply, too.
We do get the product eventually, or you could cancel your order and get your money back. Your call; I choose to continue to wait. Either way, you haven’t “lost” your money, it’s just somewhere else for the time being.

        • @Anon

“We do get the product eventually…”

          Do we?

          ..

        • (Fighting against learning spambot :-) )

          Do we?

          ..

    • The 50€ more were for the people who bought the first batch units that got free again after being abandoned by early pre-orderers who suspected a scam after not getting anything for months after payment.

      • @Anon

        1) The Pandora is the promised profit. And we ARE investors, if we hadn’t invested our money years before the start of mass production, no units could have been produced. First batch payments were used to pay first batch production, right? If we were customers, we would have been offered a product instead of the idea of a product.

        2) The price of the first batch was raised from 250€ to 300€ (including German tax) in ED’s shop. I believe it was right after the Paypal Desaster had been solved and there were lots of order cancellations by people who had no other method for payment. People who ordered after that had to pay 50€ more than the ones who ordered on pre-order day, at least from a German perspective. I believe it was justified with the RAM-upgrade, so this raise surely must have been passed to investors from other countries as well.

        • 1) Nice try, but no. Profit != product paid for. When I buy an item on ebay, and the seller takes 3 weeks to ship it to me, that’s not profit, that’s just what I paid for. If I buy a painting for $100, keep it a couple of years, during which the artist dies, people decide they’re now rare and worth more, and then I sell it to someone else for $10,000, *that’s* profit. There has to be an increase in value of the item. You could argue that it’s gone up $20-$50 in price because of the more RAM, etc, which is a slight profit, but that’s not the same as what you were saying.

1b) No, we’re not investors, we’re customers. Investors generally pay a fair amount of money, take risks (losing said money), and then have the potential to make a lot of profit (usually percentage-wise) if the company does well. You have the option to cancel your order whenever you want, at no expense to you (minus some processing/exchange-rate fees), so there’s basically no risk. At the end of the day, you get one pandora per-order, and that’s it. If the pandora takes off, they sell millions (I sure hope so!) and start making lots of money per unit, the OP team gets it all. You don’t get any percentage. You’re just a customer (granted, an early-adopter with a long pre-order time), but still just a customer. You’re right that our money was used and needed for the first batch, which is uncommon, but that doesn’t make you an investor by itself. They wanted assurances that enough people would actually buy the product.

          2) I ordered after the fiasco, but admittedly not from the German site. I did not have this issue. I don’t understand what you mean by “so this raise surely must have been passed to investors from other countries as well.” No one got any money back, if that’s what you’re asking. Nor did the people who ordered earlier have to pay more. That’s not an uncommon practice, though – it happens all the time with conferences. People who register early have to pay less, because the organizers are trying to ensure that they have a full event. It’s better to have 100 people pay $50 each (5,000) than only 60 people at $75 each.

At least not for German pre-orderers.

  27. You’re not quite right there, Anon. Most of us caught the fiasco with the Bank here in England, and were offered and GOT our money back. Although I’m sure you didn’t mean ‘no $$ back’ in quite that way. So people like Kefinan needn’t worry. Your moneys not earning you any interest with the Pandora team but this is NO SCAM so stick with it and you’ll have a very happy smiling face when it pops through your door.

    • I think you’re wrong; I’m very interested in the Pandora

  28. Are you kidding me ??
They really ask 50$ (meaning 50€ for us) to second batch customers !?
    This is crazy !
Can we have a link to that thread please ?
I really hope they do not take any new orders for this presumed second batch right now or I will then be obliged to refund immediatly to avoid any eventual problems.
More than 350€ for this is really expensive !

    • Excuse me. It was $20 more. See here:
      http://pandorawiki.org/Pandora#Full_Specs

      • First batch orderers originally only had to pay 250€. It only became 300€ later on.

        • There was a change in price, and in currency conversions being different (as far as I recall, price is now given in USD). If you placed your order early enough, and it got canceled (credit card problems) you only had to pay the original amount, not the altered price.

  29. Somebody needs to update the openpandora.org website and update the link that points to the “unofficial openpandora blog”.

I wonder if we’re still on track for getting the OpenPandora by Christmas? Considering I bought it as a christmas gift last year…I’m hoping it can still be a christmas gift to …. ME!

  30. Great news!
I can’t wait for a final release of Pandora :)

  31. great

  32. loving the bunny icon

  33. i never knew true love until i knew nesting comments

  34. Nice job at deciding to move.

I only see one issue though. All of the images from what I can see are still on the old blog site and thus being linked to. I dunno if that is what you wanted, but I thought the images would have been transfered to here and the links to them updated accordingly.

    • Yep, that’s on the to-do list. We’ll probably leave all the old posts as they are, but new ones will be hosted here. We still have to bring over the sidebar graphics too. The old blog will be kept in place as an archive, and wp.com hosting is about as solid as it gets, so linking our pics from there is pretty safe in the meantime. :)
