The AV cables have landed!
September 11, 2009Another piece of the puzzle locked into place. A small shipment of AV cables has landed in Canada, and we present them for you here in ultra-modern digital photograph form. (You might notice that some images are still being hosted at the old blog address. Ignore that! You saw nothing!) Over to MWeston:
These are production samples and are exactly what customers will be getting. I just checked all the pins and they all go where they should. If I can get control of the TV tonight, I’ll try them out.

For those who came in late, the cable offers the following: S-video out, composite video out (you can use one or the other, selectable in software), stereo audio out, and stereo audio in.

Hey there could you make a video of the pandora connected to a TV.
No, we’re just the unofficial blog. There is a video from a few months back though. They were just using prototype hardware, but the result is the same.

… Why do you do this to me?
That looks awesome… and they’re just cables god dammit!
the photo with the prototype is aesthetically pleasing
Hmm, btw whats the Blu cable?
mini USB?
Yep.
Its not blue, its metal.
And it looks to be the S-Video out cable.
I think he means the blue plastic one, in the rear shot with everything plugged in.
Oops, you might have meant the blue cable plugged into the back of the Pandora. That would be a mini-USB.
Stop typing so fast!
what ver of the panda is that?
is CNCed one?
No, it’s an old FDM (rapid) prototype. Hence the roughness!
couldnt it be sanded a bit to deal with it? XD, its awfull aesthetics make the photo divergently funny
What’s the point of using up time sanding a 3D-printed prototype?
Am I going color blind? That didn’t look blue to me, it look more purpleish.
I almost forgot about the extended length of those cable. Awesome!
You might need to calibrate your colors on your computer/monitor
it is kinda bluish-purple, though
Wow, that’s awesome, for the first time in the history of the pandora I have high hopes that I will recieve it before “two months” elapse. I should have got some, but I probably won’t be playing on my TV much, anyway. I have a linux media center for that.
Never in the history of blogging has there ever been so much excitement about some funny blue/purple cables… Just remember to ignore the 30 pound gorilla in the room
The cables look very nicely done. It’s great to see audio in on them too, as I know that a lot of people wanted that implemented.
Looking forward to the new vid
I’m curious what indicators/labels/tags there are on the audio cables to denote which ones are for input and which are output.
Never mind. Answered my own question by zooming in on the picture to see the labels on the plugs.
I did actually notice that
Woohoo! Woohoo woohoo woohoo!!! We’re getting there for real!
What’s a realistic date for shipping folks?
Awesome! Everything looks good!
(Also, love the new site, nested replies and inline IRC ftw!)

Thanks Screeny!
Shouldn’t the inputs be female RCA? It looks like they are all male.
That’s so it can connect to the outputs of pretty much any standard AV gear (CD player, phono/mic preamp, mixing desk, etc) without needing extra adapters. There are situations where you might need a couple of cheap female-female RCA adapters, eg. connecting to a PMP that has a 3.5mm to male RCA output cable. I guess MW has leaned towards the “pro” side of things though.
Not to nit pick here but did anyone else notice the time delay for the tv, things were happening on the pandora a noticable ammount of time before they happened on the screen, not sure if this is just with the pandora or if all the hand held devices are like that as i have never actually hooked up any of mine to the tv. anyhow its not a feature i will be using as i have a chipped xbox for that but still looks good and really cant wait for my pandy
The 1 frame delay might be down to the game being displayed on the Pandora and tv at the same time. That could certainly cause some slow down at least.. or so I would have though
Hopefully there will be some distinctive marking to distinguish the inputs from the outputs.
sosilly, look at the 2nd picture. they are labeled in and out.
So, what should we do with the audio-in?
(except maybe record audio from cd/dvd-player)
Record music, maybe?
