Official blog: CE testing booked in
October 8, 2009

Another lightning fast blog entry from EvilDragon. Judgement day draws near! Beware the four horsemen of the Pandocalypse.
Just a quick note:
Got an appointment.CE testing will take place next week on Wednesday and will probably take about 1 – 2 hours.
This will leave me some time to setup the unit to prepare the test. I’m also working together with DJWillis, notaz and cpasjuste at the moment to bring the patchworked OS together

Cool!
Wish he’d used Pandocalypse in the title. :p
Great. Keep the Good news coming
It’s all getting so close to happening! Are we actually at an expected release date of *less* than two months now?
yeah, sure, I ordered a POSTER from England and arrived in Italy in just 2 months.
They still have to *do* this testing, “at least once”, then call in for the *production* of the cases, then *wait* for them to be produced, shipped and installed. Then shipped again. And I’m forgetting for sure nubs, keymats, “case colouring” (I mean the white font print near the leds or the keys), etc.. etc… etc..
I think that (given the pandora project being not a scam) until february or march the first of us will receive their toy.
Woohoooo!!!
Nice work Ed. If it wasn’t for you I’d of probably given up with the pre-order by now
…and you gruso, you save me mulling over the board every day
Good news.
I hope it will pass the test.
And what FCC testing ?
I do believe FCC needs to be the final unit so that can’t be bun yet, but the CE is usually higher standards then the FCC any way.
I think FCC is only need in the US if shipped from the US. So if it fails the only impact is the US guys (and gals) would have to wait for shipping with the rest of us, and then wait for them to return to the US. Should pass the FCC if the CE passes methinks.
I’m scared. I never thought it would actually happen… and now it is?
Just out of interest, is CE a formality? What happens if it doesn’t pass?
We all receive a Dingoo with a ‘Pandora’ sticker on it.
LOL. I’d be gutted.
Call it a prototype/sample unit and send it anyway.
Haha, thanks for this good laugh.
lol++
lol+=1
Delays – Throw the 105 away and correct the fault. Make another 105 two months later. Test these and then make the rest two months later. Does not bare thinking about. This is the single most important step left for us that would like their pandora this year.
it’s already so close! can’t wait until it releases!
If you don’t know the answer, pick D!!
I thought C was always the right one? no wonder I always fail
Does that mean that us guy’s and gal’s in Europe will be getting their Pandora’s first ? It would make sense to ship them as soon as they are ready instead of waiting for FCC testing as well. Of course I know nothing of such things, I just assume that as my Nintendo DS has been CE tested and not FCC tested and I live in europe the CE testing is for Europe and FCC testing for America.
the timetable says that FCC and CE wont affect anything … (the plan in the unofficial roadmap)
*said, they changed it -,-
Oh, well. So much for wishful thinking m8.
If the rendez-vous is set to next week Wednesday and if things were really as fast as they say, then why present a prototype for the CE test ?
Case should be there next week.
Or maybe in two month yeah you right use the Prototype one…
Consider how long it took the Rev4 board to get to Germany.
We don’t want any more of those waits caused by shipping between developers. Plus, the cases are estimated to be finished the day after CE testing is done. Hey, let’s get a Previous Day shipping plan!
I think they’re holding off the mass production until they are sure it passes CE. As was said before, once in a case it is not going to generate more radiation.
If it fails then 105 and not 4,000 units are wasted.
WHAT AM I GOING TO WAIT FOR NEXT!
This is awesome. I was expecting them to dawdle around, but it sounds like ED probably got the next available appointment. They’re keeping up with their commitment to get mass production under way! We might see units by November! *exciting*
I like that he’s now talking about HOURS.
Not YEARS.
Hey, hey, hey! This also means for the first time we have a fully functional p&|a with all the trimmings! Doesn’t anybody want a video of it this week?
hum, would it be possible to replace the image on the unofficial blog by a real CE logo… I don’t want one of those “China Export” logo…
That is the real logo
nope, the C and the E should be more spaced on the real logo
seems like they corrected it now
Woot, I just preordered. Looks like my timing was just about spot on.
I can’t wait to start coding for this thing…
Just wait 2 more months and you will !
Sure dude
No, NOT two months if you *just* preordered. You’ll be waiting awhile yet.
And what the hell is up with the China Export logo?
> “No, NOT two months if you *just* preordered. You’ll be waiting awhile yet.”
Why? Anyone who secures one of the final few now, is in the same batch as those of us who ordered a year ago.
Well, the 105 will be coming in 2 months, earlier hopefully. The next batch will still have cases to be moulded and assembled. Do correct me if I’m wrong.
The 105 are in the first batch. They’re the only boards that have been produced so far. When the case mould is finished, and the cases start mp, those 105 should be the first to go out, but the rest of the 4000 Pandoras will trickle out over the next month or so. The whole process should hopefully take about two months max.
Yep.
Any mention of the “first batch” refers to all 4,000 Pandoras.
Very cool, our Pandoras are finally coming to fruitition. Nummy!
I’d never heard of the supposed China Export logo until now. A bit of research reveals that there is no such mark.

http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getAllAnswers.do?reference=P-2007-5938&language=EN
tl;dr – “China Export” is a load of Ship High In Transit, but unauthorised logos do exist. The logo I used was one of the fake ones, so thanks for pointing it out. Fixed.
…Sooooo… are you authorized to use the authorized logo?
They will on October 14…
Damp Squib moment:
Seems this is *a* CE test that’s upcoming and not *THE* CE test (that would result in actual certification).
I bite my tongue.
Correct. As described by ED in the official blog post “Speed it up”, this allows them to go straight to mass production. The final tests later on will cost them more, but we don’t have to sit around waiting for them.
The official Roadmap still says mass production (beyond the first 105) won’t begin until FCC & CE have passed
http://www.openpandora.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=98&Itemid=13&lang=en
“Mass Production of 3895 Pandoras: Prepared. As soon as CE / FCC is passed, MP starts”
The roadmap is deliberately simplified. Use it as a snapshot of progress, but look to the blog posts and forums if you want detailed info.
If the preliminary CE test is passed this Wednesday, mass production will start. The last four official blog posts have pretty much revolved around this fact. You should listen to ED.
Nom nom nom
lol for the 1st time I’m excited for wednesday’s test!
I’m sure we’ll get info update on that same day?
Thanks Gruso for keeping us informed, and many thanks to ED, without whom my order would be cancelled by now.
I almost wish I could order from Germany (I expect it would raise my costs, delay my Pandora, and wouldn’t improve EDs income, so it’s not worth it).
FCC/CE Won’t affect time line so just stick around 2010 for real things.
I hope I’m not waiting for a disappointing machine. There is so much good tiny hardware coming for 2010.
TOMORROW!
TODAY !!
13 mins to scheduled start of test!
