Jeepers, they don’t just test these things – it’s a full interrogation. ED has posted some photos of the CE testing process on the official site. There’s no text to accompany them yet, but we’re informed by the German connection that he’s working away at it right now. In the meantime, browse the full gallery here.

Update: We now have text!

  1. …and with that, I’m off to get on a plane. Keep an eye on the official blog!

    • You stole my FRIST PSOT, you cock.

      • Owned.

        • Wait what?

Gruso said something at 2:44pm, Barkmarkmark replied at 6:26pm and gruso replied at 3:00pm?!? Is gruso time traveling in some weird way that allows him to respond to things that haven’t happened before they do but they all show up at the same time? And, come to think of it, it’s only 4PM right now…

          • And now look at the date: he had responded a day before this post was made :) – almost as if he was playing with time

  2. So guessing from that picture :

The Pandora pass the CE testing.
    Right ?

  3. That guess could be right. Whispers on the forums say that it has passed. Just waiting for the official word!

And NOW I’m off to get a plane.

  4. Vee have vays of making you talk….

  5. I wonder if the CE testing guy is going to ask Ed “is it safe?”

A reference to the movie Marathon Man BTW.

    • No need to explain the reference. One of the best 3 best spy movies ever made.

      • Whose the Spy in Marathon Man?
        It’s an anti-dentistry flick.

        • D’Oh

          should’ve been who’s not whose.

I flagellate myself for this error.

  6. Awesome news from the official blog that FCC testing probably won’t be needed anymore. That could simplify things nicely :)

    • Yeah, I just read that. That would be outstanding news. I guess the only things I see FCC tested are cell phones and things like the Kindle, which has a cellular radio.

      • I guess so… although the Pandora has wifi onboard, which I’d expect counts.

Hmm, not sure what ED means by certificate number. This laptop (wifi, bluetooth, no 3g) has an FCC ID and so does my mobile phone (wifi, bluetooth, 3g) but I’m not sure if that’s the same thing.

  7. No nubs in the test device??

    • Why would you need nubs on the CE testing device? Do you think the nubs have anything to do with the wireless frequencies and such?

      …I thought not. :P

      • The question wasn’t because I thought it would affect the test. Duh. The question was simply why didn’t they just put the nubs in it?

ED’s said they have all the nubs to build the 4000 Pandoras, so it just seems odd to see this testing being done with a partial unit. I would’ve expected it to be complete so that he could use it for other testing/playing.

      • You think wrong, everything affects radiowaves. But the effects would be so small or only positive that it does not matter at all.

  8. I’m not so sure about the FCC testing. My iPod Nano (3rd generation) has the FCC logo on it, and it doesn’t have any wireless specs that I know of.

    • Is it “FCC approved” or “FCC certified”? ED explains the difference in the blog post.

    • It has an FM radio and possibly a transmitter.

I wish someone would confirm this soon.

  9. My ASUS EEE has a sticker on the bottom for the wireless card specifically that has an FCC ID number on it. So does that mean the host device doesn’t have to be certified but the wifi does?

    • I hope we sourced parts that have been tested already.

  10. Bluetooth sixaxis controllers for the PS3 say FCC “listed accessory”. the lable says “this class bdigital apparatus complies with canadian ICES 003″ So if a controller needs FCC testing I’m going to just go ahead and assume that the Pandora will need it too.

  11. good to hear everything is coming along

  12. Wehey! Mass production of the boards have been ordered, so now all we’re waiting for is the moulds to be finished. (Go read the official blog.)

  13. Well guys, that’s it. We’ll all have our Pandoras within two months. :) :) :)

    • Can you promise that this time ?
      What if …

  14. Seems to be a lack of news on the official carry case

  15. i’m glad i didn’t preorder one. all those pics look as fake as something i could set up given the time and about $250 USD. i mean, come on- one of the pics has an old as $#!T moniter, like the one i used to play “Oregon Trail” on when i was in in elementary school. wtf?

    • You will be hitting yourselve very hard when there are 400 people using their Pandora’s. Do you honastly think that if this was a hoax that it would have gone on this long or do you think we would have had all these videos and also all the stuff being developt for it?
You have never seen a hoax before have you?

      • Sigh. Some cons/scams/hoaxes are good. Take Bernie Madoff. for example. He managed to con quite a lot of people out of quite a lot of money over more years than I care to think about – and he did it in part by showing them the (supposed) results of the scheme. the best cons AFAIK pretty much always show how genuine and wonderful the project/idea/scheme/whatever is beforehand. That’s how they work. People who LOOK like they are pulling a hoax usually do not get very far.

Meanwhile – I hope you are underestimating the number of people who will get Pandoras. 400 seems awfully low to me!

        • Typo :D need some sleep

  16. Excellent news! I think it’s great they found something to fix. IMHO this makes the cost of doing this pre-CE test well worthwhile, avoiding potential delays later on while proving that the board is “good to go” for mass production. I have difficulty imagining a better result! :D

  17. Funny to see those pictures of an innocent desk… waiting for something to happen lol!
