Shields up, run the replicators

ED has posted another post on the official blog:
Well, Michael has already begun to wrap up one of those LCD cables in a nice shield. Those foils are REALLY thin, so there’s nothing we need to change with the case. It’s an easy fix.
The other thing you might want to know is that we placed our order for the production of those 3895 boards. Yep, mass production of the motherboards has started!
Now all that’s left to do is wait for the chinese company to finish the moulds. Yeeha!
Good news all around!
Figures, mass production starts a week before I go out of the country for 7 weeks. Guess I’ll be getting my Pandora in January when I come back.
Either way this is amazing news and its so exciting now that we’re finally to this stage!
I think we all know deep down inside the Pandora will still not be shipping by the time you’re back. 7 weeks < 2 months.
In the immortal words of Homer Simpson… “WOO HOO!!” Only 2 more months!!
Great news! Soon my life will be complete! (until the next awesomeness-seeping thing comes out)
Thanks Atomicthumbs – Wondered where the next post was coming from with Gruso on his travels.
Good news indeed. Much less that can go wrong. I too am sure I’ll be holding one of these things within two months. (probably just over one).
I’m holdin’ down the fort
Well I think you should add yourself to the authors list.
Post again! Post again! I’m bored already. Nothing exciting has happened for at least 8 hours.
Well I posted a comment a couple of blog posts ago and I was probably a little late on the uptake so I figured I’d re-comment (maybe i should just make a forum post). My question is about sustainability. If we do have problems, such as a broken analog stick (which is a common problem on the PSP which we all know has only 1 analog nub, nevermind 2), since this project is open source will we be able to get the information to order replacement parts/hardware ourselves?
I’m not one for sending electronics away for repair I’d rather fix them myself if I can and I’m just wondering if you guys/gals know if we’ll be able to get the parts we need to repair our Pandora’s if we’d like to? I would probably try to share all the knowledge I gain on my site and support the Pandora on the Hardware level as much as I could. If nobody really has any info, what are your opinions on such a thing?
-Also can’t wait for the Pandora, I’m a late orderer so I can’t imagine how the early pre-orderers are feeling.
I’d actually prefer the option to send it in to get fixed. I think your average user would be nervous about opening up one of these babies and installing a new nub.
Plus, doesn’t opening up a device usually void its warrenty?
The Pandora was MADE to open it up! ( Hence OPENpandora
) Haha!
The warranty will be fine as long as you don’t touch the feedback circuit. =P
Since when was the PSP analog breaking a common problem? The cap might pop off but those are easily replaced. But besides that the Pandora Analogs are a different animal and it’s likely they’ll sell replacment parts or offer an option to repair them by sending them to a reputable repair shop.
I would most definitely be more nervous about attempting to send it back. Aside from the transatlantic shipping, which alone would eat a month of time, the cost of sending it back is insane. I’m also an EE student who builds electronics for fun, so naturally the situation is not the same for everyone.
DAMN REPLICATORS
i hate the ancients for building them
I must have missed that part. They were really invented by the ancients?
In SG Atlantis they were directly responsible. In SG1 They were created by someone thousands of years ago but it wasnt clear if he was an Ancient or just another alien race that looked really human.
But yeah if we could just assemble these babies with nanotech they’d be done by now… of course they’d probably devour you for raw materials to make more too.
In SG1 it was some girl that made the replicators as toys. The girl turns out to be an andriod with a childish personality. The people of her civilisation distrusted her and the replications protected her and it sort of got out of hand and when everyone was dead or a somepoint between the replicator took off on their own and started to ignore the girl’s commands. So she went to sleep until SG1 came along.
something like that.
Only 3999 LCD cables to wrap by hand….should take you what….2 months?!
for the whole hand-many assembly:
- 5 minutes per pieces (or 4 + 1min of break… or 10min of break every 10 assembled Pandoras…)
- 4000 units
- 6 hours per day
- 5 days per week
= 11.1weeks >> 2months
The whole process isn’t even started and the 11+ weeks don’t include any testing and shipping delays…
Please, PLEASE, tell me that I’m missing something!
It seems that you assume that only one person will assemble the Pandoras.
The Pandoras will be assembled in a factory in Texas, and I think it’s save to assume, that more than one person will be assembling the Pandoras.
Probably this is the case for the LCD cable.
However, about the factory why not assuming that machine are assembling this ?
Someone needs to update the “unofficial roadmap” or did gruso take the keys with him on holiday?
Yeah! And where has Gruso gone on holiday? Hold on! I reckon it’s Texas. The |*d trying to jump the bleed’n’ queue. Watching too many reruns of Skippy the bush kangaroo has warped his brain.
Taxi! Airport please.
