No, he’s not getting a tattoo. He’s adding the final lick of paint to Pmenu, and he’s giving one and all the chance to see their artistic handiwork shipped out to the masses as one of Pmenu’s skin options. If you’re an artist of any style and you’re in the mood to skin, download the latest Pmenu build (x86 Linux) and get started. On the subject of menus, some soothing news from the German quarter for those who are feeling apprehensive about the whole Linux thing. You should be aware by now that you’ll be able to switch between two modes; the minimal menu (Pmenu) and the full desktop environment (which looks like it will be XFCE). EvilDragon has now announced that there will be a first boot wizard, to set you off on the right foot. It’s the little things in life, innit? Thanks to Mali for the tip and the translation.

Look at those screenshots.
Look at all the other interfaces that have been suggested so far. Horror.
It is SO simple to make something look good and sleek. Just a simple color scheme can do wonders.
Work with neutral colors, blacks and greys, and top it of with 1 color tone. And there’s a nice interface.
Plenty of interfaces to go around and to copy from. Steal with your eyes.
Look at the N900, black, slightly glossy buttons with a nice strong white font inside, the buttons casting just a hint of a shadow onto the background.
I just hate it when i see coders do the graphics work.
And this is just the interface side, let alone the design of the pandora itself.
It has so many flaws, so many little things that could’ve made it look so much better, it isn’t even funny.
And don’t dare to say noone had big frowns when they saw the keypad.

even my 10$ calculator has nicer buttons than that.
Yes, I’m being negative, and that’s because i was supposed to have this device more than a year ago, plus the fact that the looks and finishing touches have been less than beautiful.
The more pictures that are revealed, the more glad i get i cancelled my order.
I love projects like this, I really do. Having built and designed quite a few things myself i have a passion for creation, freedom, do it yourself.
But why do these projects like the Pandora have to be so unpolished, rouch and not thought through?

I’m getting a bit weary of this blog being a sounding board for people who just want to bitch, but won’t get onto the forums and talk directly to the people they’re bitching about. If there’s something wrong with the skins you’re seeing, say something in the forums! If you think someone’s art is lame or their English is crap, grow a pair and tell them directly.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the board, access is fine from here in Aus. The servers for the gp32x, op.org and the file archive are all in one place in Germany. Can you access other German sites ok?
