Official blog: Thrill and Suspense
November 29, 2009
First, an apology from PandoraPress for copy/pasting this tale of shrinkage so long after the fact (“I was in the pool!”). Second, an apology from ED for excitedly jumping the gun last week upon seeing the new case parts. And who could blame him?
Your all waiting for more shiny case pictures, right? Well… we all are.
However, I did make a fault with my last blog post – as the pictures had been released, I assumed the shipment to Michael was on the way. It isn’t yet – sorry about that, I was so excited about that myself, I really thought it was on the way.
The reason the cases are not yet on the way to Michael is that one mould still had a problem with the shrinking. What’s that, you might ask? Well, due to the big heat and cooling off afterwards, the material shrinks a bit – and if the mould is not perfectly adjusted, it doesn’t fit 100% or will look ugly.
To adjust it perfectly it has to be done a bit via a trial and error method: Check where the shrinking occurs, change the mould there, try again, etc.
It’s nothing major and no problem at all, it’s a normal process in mould creation and shouldn’t take more than a couple of days. We’re still trying to ship as many as possible before christmas!I thought I’d just let you know

Back to some got news: The board production is still going fine. Everything is ready for the big run, it looks like there won’t be any delay here, yeeha.
As there was a discussion about suspend, etc. going on at the boards: We’re working on a temporary solution as REAL suspend to RAM is pretty complicated and will definately take a while. Therefore, we include as much power saving functions as possible to make it similar to suspend. It’s basically the same way mobile phones and PDAs do work (they don’t suspend, otherwise you couldn’t get a phone call). With proper power management, this standby mode should long about 10 days until you need to recharge the battery, so that should be fine enough.
Of course, you can always shut the system down completely so it won’t need any more power at all![]()
That’s it for today, let’s hope the shrinkage will be fixed really soon!

The best thing about posting days-old news is that you’re officially reading it from the woooorld of tomorrooow. That is to say, the few days ED mentions have already passed, so here’s hoping this is just the first Monday post on the ‘press.
We all know that ‘few days’ hasn’t already passed. Nothing is ever longer than a ‘few days’ – and yet somehow turns into weeks and months.
I get a gold star for optimism though, right?
Here ya go Gruso, a gold star. -> *
Okay, so technically it’s a black star. Hope that’s good enough!
You do get a gold star for optimism – wish I could muster a bit at this time myself but I just can’t seem to anymore.
Look on the brightside. More time to refine shit that should have been done months ago, and an ever expanding library for when this puppy is released.
Great picture. Like a frightened turtle.
Take as long as you need.
Right. For my own good, i’m ignoring this particular product development until after xmas.
I just can’t take the ‘oh wait… that’s not right’ anymore. I mean I’ll be purchasing one, eventually, but i dont see that happening until mid next year anyway.
And here I was thinking you were trying to keep the saddening/irritating news away from your readers, helping them to keep a positive outlook on our Pandy…O well.
Then I’d have to use this guy for the picture:

Oh no not him!

“there won’t be any delay”
You mean
“There won’t be any more delay” right ?
Because you’re already indecently in delay
Please people is there any list somewhere to gadget similar to the Pandora for reading e-book, playing video on tv, run web browser WITH flash. It’s finally all I really need so shall not be so expensive right now for waiting the Pandora ?
Something like the smartQ7 but I read it “wasn’t good” (but available for a small price).
Thanks.
The smartQ7 doesn’t have Flash support as far as I’m aware niether does the pandora
Hope adobe roll it out soon.
I’m not sure about the smartQ7, but the pandora should run flash no problem with gnash or any number of standalone opensource flash players. linux ftw
Hh, really? Anyone’s surprised?

“Sometime around April/May 2008 via UK, USA, Germany and Turkey.”
2008, right?
The question was :
“When and where can I buy it?”
Sometime around April/May 2008 via UK, USA, Germany and Turkey.
Not “when can you deliver it”.
I know it’s boring to wait and how hard it began to be on the designer side but I really plan for mid January this time. Then we will see.
George Constanza saves the day!
Why don’t you take all that bloody waiting time to test every screen for dead pixels or board for shit storm bugs ?
Si j’ai, ne serait-ce qu’un pépin mineur avec cette machine, je vous jure que ça va chier !
Who says they *aren’t* using these delays to work on other useful things?
Yeah, of course.
Maybe they hang out girls and smoke stuff.
Whatever, in less than a month we all going to shop shit for a merry Christmas. Forget about the Pandora, maybe under your banana tree in January Sam
I guess we must freeze ourselves until the pandora is released.
Freezing is the way to go.
Cryogenisation maybe ?
It is safe ?
I hope the Ancient Technology Museum features the pandora just in case we wake up in 2546.
You forgot it can’t be featured in Ancient Technology Museum before it’s actual release.
Simply put 2 more month after the year 2546. Just in case
By the way, if humanity survive until then I cannot imagine how many kind of adaptors, standards and choices of ultra high technologies you have to put together to appease our thirst for gadgets or dumb things.
Utterly unrelated to pandora, I just found a nice way to mount lots of extra storage onto my VPS via sshfs and an ext3 loop device, from a large box where I have only user-level ssh access. Working real nice almost as fast as the local disk, and cheaper (free) than paying for a larger slice of VPS that I don’t need (expensive).
can’t wait to get my pandora so I can go outside and hack under a banana tree or something
nice, a portable RSI generator
There are no banana trees in the UK
The good thing is that I’ve ordered Tamiya RC car this time, so I won’t be without Christmas present again like the last year.
I’va ordered E-Sky 4channel RC helicopter
Looks like it’ll be 2 years in a row for me.
And having a birthday in January, last year the Pandora was a combined xmas/b’day present from my wife. Since she’s yet to re-order, it’s likely I won’t see one until mid 2010…
What a coincidence! I also have birthday in January. January 6 to be exact.
Ship date: February 29, 2010
It’s December 1st…do you know where your Pandora is?
In unassembled pieces scattered across the globe?
So currently 1000 cases are being build while we don’t even know if it fit correctly ?
No preview model but still here before xmas ?
oh dear I’m so 3200 in the queue…
