Pickle runs Marathon

Pickle gives us a peek at Aleph One M1A1, complete with clockspeed and keymap tweaks, and a clever hand that hardly gets in the way at all. For those quietly wondering, Aleph One is the enhanced open source descendant of Bungie’s Marathon 2: Durandal. The M1A1 variant completes the circle, bringing the levels & assets from the original Marathon into the Aleph One engine. More from Pickle’s Youtube text:

Im using the new gui to set the clock speed
I also show how key mapping works and finally some in game
Sorry hand is in the way at points and also couldnt play sound at the time of recording but it works.

  1. Looks great!
A little like quake, maybe a little too “mazey” for me.

  2. Nice. It’ll be a lot nicer when it isn’t running like crap, mind :) Frame rates dipped to about 3 fps at times. The Pandora’s plenty capable, though, so hopefully someone will look into getting it to run smoothly.

    • It looks like it might be being rendered in software (I don’t see any texture interpolation). Perhaps reworking it to take advantage of GL-ES might yield a bit more speed?

  3. YAY Marathon! What’s that thing in the beginning? That’s not part of the original Marathon. It looks a bit laggy, I hope that will change. Will it be possible to play all 3 games?

  4. LOL @hand !!!

  5. So that’s what Pickle’s been doing.

  6. Our net here has been limited to 8kB/sec for a few days until the end of the month, a bit disappointing to download the first 5Mb of this video and see only a big hand attempting to set the clock speed! Learn to edit? I’ll post again and say something about the game after the video finishes downloading. Hopefully it’s not ALL hand!

It seems like the “it’s hard to double-click” problem is one that should be fixed ASAP, it must be delaying all aspects of the software development for Pandora!

    • Learn to not be an ass to people who are porting software for you to play for free.

  7. Yay! I added this to the port request section of the wiki a while back, it makes me happy to see that someone ported it!

    @Awakening
I’m not sure if compatibility changed when Pickle ported it, but the Aleph One engine works with all three games. (and a whole bunch of really good mods)

Bungie’s made the engine and all three games available for free here: http://source.bungie.org/get/

  8. the game looks good, I’ll try it when I get my Pandora :)

  9. Yay pickle ports again :) Merry porting christmas pickle :)

  10. RARARA RARAAA GAORAWR!!!

    *insert more excited gurgling here*

YAY PICKLE!!! If there’s ONE thing I got a pandora for, it’s MARATHON!!!

    WOOO YEAH YAAAAYY!!!

    You ROCK!

    *ecstatic*

  11. WOW
It’s trolling and flaming to the maximum in the forum for the moment !
I think there is a difference from giving this opinion and simply being an ass. Although both of them are not prohibited.

This is not a very good advertisement for the Pandora.

I eared a lot of that Marathon from Mac. But I don’t know well what to think of the screens.
Looking terribly old in some way.

    • It is really old, made in 1994…

      • I really hope to see some fresh software aim directly to the Pandora soon.
Flash support, IDE or a game fully supporting OpenGL 2.0 ES because I’m not so fan of old stuff afterall.

I’m not buying a portable SNES clone or something. I have already replay most of the game I love and it wasn’t so great in the end.

Xmas is in ~10 days only !

  12. lol I completely missed out this game in the past.
    Though I prefer doom ^^

    • u probably missed it because it was for mac
