Weekend approaches, digits are crossed

Toned shoulders, bigger slots, shaved something-or-others. These are the case revisions we wait for; this weekend is the time frame we hope for.

The cases will probably arrive with Michael at the weekend if we are lucky. They should be the final ones.

So it looks like units won’t ship to customers in large numbers until (probably) after Christmas.

I’m sure Michael will make up more units, but it’s going to be small numbers before Christmas, probably for devs.

When you get your Pandora and see just how perfected it is you will understand the delays. (craigix)

For the moment then, we continue to dream of what we’ll get up to with our bundles of joy. While you’re doing this, perhaps you’d like to help out a fellow Pandorian with some research. Forum member Peca is gathering some data for his bachelor dissertation, and wants to know how you’ll be using your Pandora. His questionnaire lists some usage scenarios, and you allocate points to the pertinent stuff. It’s rather like levelling up your warrior (thanks Kag), except nothing happens at the end.

  1. Grrreat!

  2. Is gp32x.com down or is it just me?

openpandora.org is timing out too instead of redirecting to open-pandora.org (which works). It seems like the whole server is down?

    • I couldn’t get to the forums from my work connection today, but my mobile connection was fine. Weird. I’m on the home connection now, and everything’s working.

  3. “except nothing happens at the end”

So it’s _exactly_ like leveling up.

    • Hmm, touché.

  4. I’d like to add, that for those wondering why the ‘Production’ cases don’t have the matte finish. It is likely that it requires another set of machines to coat it after.

That they have to set up a run with the material and it takes both machines and a coating product… a big process to do.

It is no wonder they don’t want to do it for the test cases. If OpenPandora insisted they did, it would be costly.

No, the ‘after mold matte-finish coating’ can only be done on the production run.

I just hope it doesn’t add too much thickness to the parts.

    • It’s going to be a coating? Horrible memories of the original Psion series 5.
I thought it was going to be a treatment (like sandblasting!) of the actual surfaces, adding nothing to the dimensions.

      • A coating doesn’t have to add dimensions if it also etches a bit.

  5. seems to me everything is up and runnin.
I guess this would be the last check ^^

  6. “if we are lucky.”
Stop thinking “lucky”, start thinking real. If you say “if we are lucky they will arrive this weekend” then people are expecting pictures this weekend. If you say “we are expecting begin/mid next week” and you actually got lucky then you can spread great bundles of joy by posting pictures in the weekend.

    • Given that this project is yet to be in the slightest bit lucky. I say that the new cases will not be there over the week-end.

Not being a doom merchant, it just I’ve had every last ounce of optimism rung from my pessimistic body.

    • Why break the habit of a lifetime? ;-)

Setting realistic expectations hasn’t really been a top priority for this project…

But, hey, it’s more fun this way.

  7. its time to start those game-making engines of ours…

    • yes start make those XD
