Hardware hackers, crazed peripheral inventors, quiet fans of pins: MWeston has posted the pic you’ve been waiting for. Some of these details have done the rounds already, but never before in such pleasing diagrammatic form. Click to enlarge, save a copy, profit.

What's this?
Dun! Dun! Dun!
Brilliant, hope I ordered one of those cables.
Hmm, I wonder what that missing label is all about.
Heh, I didn’t notice that. Ah well, it wouldn’t be Pandora news if there wasn’t some speculation on the side.
By the way, you just made PandoraPress’s 8,000th comment.
Key.
Que?
I fixed the picture Gruso. I was so focused on the signals, that I forgot the power. You can grab it again and update if you would like.
I hope it’s free. What an excellent way to make a custom external antenna if you wire it to that pin. The current antenna looks woefully inadequate.
Anything over an inch and an eighth long is wasted.
Is that what you tell the little lady?
But in all seriousness, are you going to actually make the point that all those consumer products (and professional products) are wasting money with bi antenna, when an IC board with an inch+ of electrical wiring on it is as good ass it gets?
The Radio industry could use a brilliant mind like yours. Fuck, Car’s and Cell phones have been mangled so far by having huge antenna they didn’t need.
It’s probably just VCC, since it should have one and they forgot to label it.
I bet you’re right. It’s also next to the other video pins and gnd, so that makes the most sense.
I would agree, because the vcc is missing. In some rare case I also could be a second ground, as tv-out Y/C could have a separate ground. But in that case the labeled one would be named GND-C or Y.
The casing is probably also ground, but that isn’t labeled either.
Woohoo! Very pleased to finally see this!
Just randomly splurting out a question here…
Would it be possible to use some sort of gadget to, perhaps, throw visual data through the USB-port (or some other Pandora awesome-port) and convert it to a more HD format, for greater resolutions than the standard tv-out one?
(Questions such as “why would you want that” will be respectfully and completely ignored.)
I did see something the other day, a USB graphics card, which I suppose would work with the right drivers, but it’s not the same thing that I’m asking for I think. Perhaps.
There are a number of USB->video devices out there, and it’s come up a bit in the forums. AFAIK the main drawback is that it’s a very CPU-heavy undertaking. Once the first batch ships it’ll be interesting to see what sort of tests people carry out. But the cautious advice for now is not to expect any useful results.
I have a IOGear USB Laptop KVM Switch the speed is not fast enough. Works ok, though I don’t recommend video.
What it does is create a window through usb to the computer it is connected to… neat, it will be great with usb 3. I hope IOGear will make a 2nd version with it.
Anyhow forget it for P1.
Is that male or female? Just need to konw
the cable is the train, the Pandora is the tunnel.
Why does this have a Birds and Bees feel to it?
What type of plug does it want? One could use this to make a line out cable for a headphone amp, if the headphone jack won’t do line out.
Yep, you’ll be able to use the line out for stuff like that.
The plug details are floating around on the forums somewhere, I’ll try to find them when get a chance (and then add all this stuff to the wiki!). MWeston plans to sell the plugs on their own IIRC, for DIY projects.
Some detailed photos of the AV cables for those who haven’t seen them:

Yeah, this came up a few times. All the online stores seem to be out of stock for the plug, but mweston indicated he’d buy extra so people can get them from him. Lemme see if I can find the latest thread on it. I posted in it, so should be easy to back track.

I wonder if Line Out of this cable plug can be addressed/routed separately from the headphone output on the front side of Pandora. Would be nice feature for DJ mixing software – cue routed to the headphones, master mix to this Line Out.
This looks great, particularly the serial ports. It’d be great if we could buy a breakout cable, like the TV out cable but with everything wired into common plugs. Failing that I’d be happy with a bare plug (can I get one with my order? It doesn’t look like a common type of plug.)
It’s a shame it doesn’t include USB and power input though, otherwise it’d be perfect as a docking station!
I was just thinking… it would be nice if we could have a part number on Digikey or Mouser (etc) for a plug that matches the one on the pandora. (same as the one on the end of the cable basically)
Check my previous response, it has a link to a forum topic where it was made clear. The part is known, availability (other than through mweston) is unknown.
Ah, a pinout pinup!
In case someone wants to know why the boards are down. I was able to catch this before it went down:

Hi,
I just thought I’d let you know that I’m currently upgrading the server from OpenSuSE 10.3 to 11.0 (and then to the latest version).
As upgrading from OpenSuSE 10.3 is quite a lot of manual work (SuSE didn’t offer distribution updates until 11.0), the server might have some downtimes.
Do not worry, everything will be back to normal soon
