ED tweets: Scheduled delivery date

Just a quick update on the cases.
Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 05/02/2010.
If the cases reach Micheal by the 5th, he will have ample time to test them before giving China the green light. If China receive the green light by the 8th, they believe that they can finish all 4000 cases before Chinese new year.

What's this?
3 days, will it be enough… really hopes so!
I would like him to give the green light a day early so it can be more of a guarantee than a belief.
if the cases… if China receive… they believe…
would you prefer they use absolutes so you can bitch about it if the schedule deviates?
…
that’s what I thought.
Yes, this relies on the Chinese translation of “perfect” which likely means “2 more months™”.
Hey, look who finally joined the party!
Oh awesome, so the shipping did end up being fast! So assuming we get the green light, and get the cases done before Chinese New Years, any idea how long it’ll take to assemble the Pandoras? I’m assuming shipping’ll probably be slow (maybe week or more to the U.S.?)
But does chinese new year really affect the shipping? If the 4000 cases can all be produced in less than a week, we should have nothing left to fear, right?
The only thing to fear is fear itself.
These are best case scenarios but I am hoping they are correct.
Has any best case scenario been correct with the Panda?
Not a one.
Lol I originally thought it said May 2nd.
Yeah, that was going to be my comment…”unless that’s an American date.”
HAHahah me too ^^
Yeah, I kind of freaked out in puzzlement for a few seconds till I realized that it’s actually only a few days away, rather than a few months.
china is really really really far away … it has to travel by boat and pony express.
Nonsense, if Godzilla can get to Japan within a day, the sample cases can certainly get to Canada in less than a week.
you and me rob, “gozilla express shipping company”
feeling entrepreneurial?
The only thing is where would we sit? Godzilla’s back is probably all scratchy and the radiation is worse if you touch him.
It’s clearly a job for Mothra.
Godzilla could be better employed ‘incentivizing’ slow factories.
You know where the best place in line is? Between 700-800. Just where I happen to be. Golly Gee.
btb, Craig made mention that they are shooting for 1,000 to be delivered to double make sure the shipment doesn’t get stuck during CNY.
whoa! there’s a way to see where we are in the queue line? :O
You can send an email with your original order details and ask for your place in the queue, but I don’t want to encourage this because the girls don’t need a barrage of email like that.
You can also get a ballpark idea based on when you ordered. If you ordered on day one, you’re probably in the first 1,000. If you ordered in the last 6 months, you’re probably in the last thousand.
Jacqueline and Debs of Openpandora were swamped with emails before Christmas about queue status. It’s better to just wait and see than bug those poor ladies. It’s not like it will make a difference if you know your place or not. You’ll get your Pandora when they ship it regardless of that very rough estimation they’d give you.
oh sweet im in the first 1000. thanks guys. :]
I emailed to add an AV cable and spare Battery to my order, and got my status then of position between 650-750.
I am with Gruso, I don’t believe just emailing these overworked gals to find your place is a nice/fair thing to do… finding out won’t change when you get it.
i know. i agree with you guys, specially when miss jacq attended thousands of mails back in the preorder days. I just knew that im below 1000 because i ordered in the first 4 hours.
and if they don’t? so what? just another two weeks (+1-2 days to get sober) until they get back to work.
Giggidy Giggidy Giggidy Giggiddy…..!111!!1
Is ‘UPS SAVER’ the fastest way of shipping goods, which happened to be as important as delayed by 14 months cases. Well who cares
, they are due in 2 days provided there will be someone to pick them up.
But FINALLY
there is a hope that those are the last 2 months™
This the point where stupidity kicks in, why they could not ship it as an express package, and have it guaranteed ?
They loose much more by upsetting their customers who might just decide to wait for the second batch, by requesting the refund – with will give a better hardware…
Well that’s a faster delivery estimate than I was expecting!
Excellent use of joy tag.
Careful now! At no point in this post has any said that the cases will be shipped before the Chinese new year. Completed, yes, but sitting in boxes on the factory floor.
Doom!
… Why can’t we see the tracking number???!?!?!?!?
Because they don’t want hundreds of rabid Pandorians DDOSing the site.
Really? Mere hundreds of people would DDOS the UPS site?
They probably get hundreds of tracking queries every second.
The comic http://xkcd.com/281/ seems very appropriate here. That multiplied by a few thousand, and we’d probably melt UPS’s servers, let alone DDoSing them.
I don’t think there’s any reason for them to hand out the tracking number to the masses. As long as ED has Twitter we’ll stay up to date.
+1
Btw, just for fun I checked UPS’ terms and conditions you have to agree to when using their tracking system. They don’t allow posting the tracking number on a website
He could use GET…
May88 is pointing here the real the next delay problem. If the manufacturer is able to finnish the cases before holidays they are most likely shipping those trough customes before holidays. And in China the customs is closed during the holiday and very busy before and after the holidays. But eventually the cases will be ready for production and hopefully no more suprises. It is not easy when ‘4000 managers’ are pushing results:-)
Mate, if we were “managers” in any way, shape, or form – I think we’d have fired people by now.
You dont actually think they’re going to wait until they have 4000 cases before they send them do you? They’ll ship them in batches. You know how big a box that would be?
Mate, if you fired anyone based on any of this then you’d likely replace them with someone “promising” to do better but without knowing the full details of the delay.
They’d then find out the problem and the delays would be the same and then in your petulant fit of rage you’d fire them too.
This cycle would then repeat causing more and more delays as you search for the person who can magically make this happen faster.
Thankfully you’re not the manager…
moral of this story – sh*t takes time.
old addage – you can have it quick, cheap or (near) perfect – pick two. It’s obvious to me which two the p&|a team picked (the right two).
Holy hole in a donut Batman, I just realized that delivery is friday. I was thinking it was only a placeholder until I looked up UPS Saver which says delivery in 2-3 days. Nice!
haha 4000 managers are right now checking on their Pandoras.
What I guess I don’t get is why they keep saying they could make 4000 cases and ship before the 13th and that they are shooting for 1000? 1000 what…cases, completed Pandora’s by what date? That 1000 figure bothers me. 1000 what, then what?
These ambiguous messages probably are the worst part of this whole experience. I just keep telling myself patience, patience, once it arrives you will be too happy to care about anything that has happened up to that point. That is unless I also get a bill for customs that is still up in the air, and that kind of info is supposed to be supplied to the customer. I just don’t understand why things like this haven’t been confirmed by now. Yes, I did email and NO they don’t know.
Let’s just hope the “Should be able to ship from Texas” actually means it will.
I guess aside from the ambiguity, and the lack of certainty about some things this far along, the wait seems kinda less stressful. LOL
Still can’t wait though and this news is the most hopeful yet.
Here’s how I interpret that. The case factory claims they’re able to produce 4,000 cases by the 13th, if they get the green light by the 8th. OP Ltd would no doubt love to get all 4,000 by then, but I think they’ve learned from past “promises” from the case factory, and are sensibly setting their sights lower.
The reason they’ll be happy with 1,000 is that there’s no great advantage in getting all 4,000 before Chinese New Year. The Texas factory can only assemble, test & ship so many Pandoras in a given time frame – they certainly won’t be able to do 4,000 in the first two weeks. Even if all the cases were sitting there ready to go, CNY would have come and gone before the people at the back of the queue got their Pandoras.
It could mean an extra week’s wait for the people in the 2000-3000 range, but that’s assuming Texas gets the first thousand done & shipped in the first fortnight. In reality, I think Texas assembly times will “absorb” the gap between case batches from China.
I hope that makes sense!
All true but the important part is that the 4000 cases find their way far and away from that chinese factory. Everything else will be back on a measurable timeline then.
I see the majority of Pandoras being completed and shipped by the end of February.
What is wrong with sending 1000 a every day?
That does make sense Gruso, thanks. My point is why this late in the game are we still supposing anything! Time issues aside, all plans for assembly/delivery as well as every other detail should be so close to etched in stone that aside from time there should be nothing anyone has to suppose about. This worries me more than the time waited as I see supposition as opportunity for further delay. All we ever do is hope, but I am still hoping all the maybes and hopefullys and shoulds add up to something going right and us getting Pandora’s SOON. I really think the patience clock is running out for a lot of people.
I think we need assembly to happen right now.
Giving ambiguous statements leads to the creation of supposition, it’s true – so OpenPandora could be using this as a technique to occupy us rather than having us nag them even more frequently?
Maybe, I have thought of that. Then again there’s the other possibility. The ambiguity may be due to the fact that things are being handled on the fly, which is to say they just figure they will handle it some way until they find they for some reason cannot. Then they explain there is a problem and try something else. One would think if X number of Pandora’s come off the line that there is a plan for shipping them. As for now only they know what that plan is. By saying the US orders MAY ship from the factory, it could be they don’t really know exactly how they are going to ship them quite yet. Seems quite difficult to think they can ship by order number if they have to ship a group of finished units back to UK to be spread out there for shipping and some how ship certain finished units while in the US still. While that is the most cost effective for them, imagine noting that units 1,7,13,16,17,22,24,26,29 etc ship in the US, the rest of X number goes to UK etc. All I can say is that would be difficult and confusing. Simplicity wise, the easier way is to say we need X number of units for the US customers and batch and send them, same for the out of US ones, however that would make shipping “in order” harder. else you have to ship them all back to the UK to send out “in order” which would cost more. So say the have 100 Pandora’s done at the end of each day, someone will have to sit there and separate the US ones “in order” to be mailed and the rest of that 100 would be grouped “in order” to be shipped out of the US. So at some point they have to decide how many to batch ship to the UK, while having someone send out what so far has come along “in order” for the US.
All I can say is just typing that out seemed confusing for me, let alone figuring out how they are going to do this on the fly!
In any case the fact they haven’t declared HOW they are shipping for absolutely sure means that either they will ship “out of order” to make it easier, or ship them all from the UK or they don’t have it all sorted out yet. None of which are options that will make all happy. So the ambiguity IS most likely on purpose, I’m just hoping personally that it’s not the UK shipping option as it will cost more money I don’t have (laid off again).
Let’s face it, they have dealt with a lot, and I understand at this point the less info they have to give that might make people angry is probably the best, but at some point that can also make people mad. LOL No way to win.
But I’d still like to know if it will in fact ship from Texas, I don’t need to know anything more than that (just want to know if another cost is coming, that’s all) and they as of yet cannot answer this. I do find that a bit concerning this far into the game.
As for delivery time, remember MWeston doesn’t exactly live in the most busy place for deliveries… Regina isn’t a delivery hub… so they have to hit a hub then go to Regina from there.
I really hope they do give THE GREEN LIGHT… Cause if no green light say hello to a major delay…
Just saying…
I’m thinking about this song the whole time when I’m reading news about the Pandora:

The late and great Mr I Dury
^ Ahahah EPIC !
if no green light this time, im cancelling….ive a mame cabinet waiting for this money….
I’ve already got me a MAME cabinet. I reckon the pandora will be used more often than the cabinet. So, you may want to hold on.
Or not. Just sayin’
I also recognize the dilemma so many gadgets and cool projects so little time and money…
Personally, I really want to build a motion simulator for my iRacing rig. But that’s merely a pipe dream right now and I have to get more than the p&|a refund to pay for that!
go with the speed of light!!
Well its gonna be tight now. Twitter says they’re now arriving on Monday… the 8th…
Shocking… I will be absolutely shocked if the Pandora’s start shipping before April.
Not saying that doesn’t happen, but I have Never EVER had a tracking of a package change delivery date. If anything it arrives before the date they post on the tracking but it has NEVER been changed from the date they originally post.
I thought 3 days sounded amazingly fast seeing as how it has always taken longer in the past, but suddenly it changes, as usual to follow Murphy’s blasted nonsense. They better write a book about this, this has to be the only project in the world where every time something bad could happen it did, every possible delay realized, etc. And yet they are NOT bankrupt without customers. They might make as much on the book as the Pandora project as tht could be a really good read if done right.
I’ve actually had the delivery date change several times with UPS, and maybe once with Fedex. Sometimes my package goes to the wrong state, and then it has to be rerouted back to me. In this current situation, I would guess weather or customs is the reason for the delay!
I hope the factory meets this deadline. The 13th is my birthday…
