Fresh from the twitter of Craigix:

The cases have arrived early, wow, some good luck for once!

When I say early I actually mean weeks late I suppose.

Well, not perfect, but I guess we will have to go with them.

Sit tight, grab some popcorn, we’ll bring you updates as quickly as we can.

  1. well boys only 2 more weeks!

  2. what’s not perfect mean?

    • We’ll find out soon

      • I’ve been muching down the perma-excuse of “we’re making it perfect” for over a year. It tasted like chicken.

        “not perfect” I can’t stomach.

        • I have to assume the most immediate issue is probably the silk screening because after all this time how can they still be screwing up the case itself? I know the factory is a budget place but they cant have been that bad.

          • the whole process is trial and error

so alot of time can be spent, theres no instructions manual, press this button its fixed

            (atleast thats my understanding)

            • Theve been trying an erroring for months. I understand that they can’t isntantly create exactly what someone else is thinking but they do have an example of what the OP team wants and experience creating molds so they cant be too far off what is being asked of them at this point especially the way they claim to have been working so hard. if they just came in and Craig posted this I doubt he’s had time to snap it all together and make that determination, so his comment had to be on something instantly noticable. If it’s not the finish then it’s the silkscreening.

        • is it possible he’s just refering to the late arrival in a somewhat convoluted way

          • oh how i hope…

      • You mean that we’ll find out in two months!

    • I am also curious about what is not perfect… and if they will give people enough info and time to decide if they would prefer to cancel than take a less than perfect product… depending on what is not perfect about them.

  3. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey I would say, but I wonder what he means with “not perfect”, I think it’s something with the silkscreening.

  4. I hope this means no more delays.

  5. All Hail CROM, bringer of Pandora :D

    • This is the last time I pray to Jesus Allah Buddha, Thor or Chthulu for anything like this, from now on it’s CROM all the way baby. Im so glad they finally arrived, I hope they is good enough to mass produce.

    • What in the world is CROM?

      • When facing insurmountable odds, he’s the only deity to pray to. Erm.. google Conan the Barbarian, Arnies version. :)

      • What in the world is CROM?

The Confederación Regional Obrera Mexicana. Duh.

        • Es Bueno…!

      • Blasphemer!

  6. “Perfect” is impossible. It’s good to strive to make something as good as you can, but don’t become so bogged down in perfectionism that nothing can move forward.

As one who suffers perfectionism, I know too well that sometimes you just have to know when to say “that’s good enough”.

    • +1 to that.

Does it work? Yes? Then green-light that sucker and let’s roll!

    • Very wise words there. :)

    • Perfect in this case I think is “as good as the DS”. I wouldnt say that’s immpossible to ask for but The company is probably just trying to get us out of their hair so they can make more bootleg PSPs and DSs that play NES games.

      • “As good as the DS” is not really a realistic standard.

Especially not if you mean “As good as the DS in every way.”

The DS is made by a massive corporation with a massive research and design budget. They probably go through more prototypes in a week than OpenPandora has gone through in a year.

    • Good to see that there is some wisdom this time…

      • I agree as long as it is something minor like the silk screening being slightly off its time to get the first batch done.

    • “Perfect” is impossible but making shit always !
No seriously I waited more than 2 years I want something rock solid now.

No cracks, no silk scratch, no death pixels, not even a buggy touches or breakable part.

I need to travel a lot with this imperfection.

  7. I’m sure we’ll get some info in a few hours. This has been a good Friday.

    • a long, good friday no less

  8. At this point – Nothing but PERFECT will do…
How many months and years been waiting and it better be perfect..

  9. Looks like the forums are down. Probably from the excessive F5-ing going on right now.

    • My bad.

      • heh.

      • I hate that saying. Plus I was in the middle of making a particularly funny reply.

        • “heh” is a perfectly cromulent word.

          • I think he meant ‘my bad’, but even so I don’t see what’s wrong with that, i dunno why so many ppl seem to dislike that saying.

  10. I am hoping this will be one weekend to remember.

  11. guys, don’t be evil. Don’t expect the poor guys to work during the weekend… Case and boards are there, they’re good, they will come to us all (read: ass hole), EVENTUALLY.
Be patient, just 2 more weeks!

    • it’s weekend here in germany, and yes, I’m still @work, and yes, I’m already drunk.

      • rofl

      • That’s it! I’m moving to Germany.

        Alles gut.

  12. gp32x is getting killed. Almost time to leave work as well. Weekends are so good.

  13. There’s a new pic on MWestons photobucket account. It shows the final keymat.

    • Why not try hotlinking? Would be a good measure for how much pandora people are still waiting.

Ah, the server crash in septembre 2008, good memories…

  14. All the delays up to now were justified with the promise to make it perfect, so now that they gave in to imperfection, these all became lies. Makes me feel a bit funny, but still, they did the right thing at least this time, so yeah. I’d rather have an imperfect product in two months than a perfect one in two years, but now I’ll get an imperfect one after two years of waiting, funny feeling yes. Pandora will remain a very bitter memory for me, moreso than the GP2X, which was suddenly there with all its flaws.

Here’s hoping for the best, I mean who gives a damn about any part of the case besides the hinge anyway? Just let the developers roll on, and everything will be all right. I guess.

    • You know what the biggest let down is? For months I’ve had a picture of a giant green light in my head. When the moment came to announce the cases “will have to do,” I expected nothing less than a green light — literally. All this build, all these pairs of months gone by, and we get a gOD damned theatre stage?

Hell, even a picture of Cpt. Picard saying “Make it so” would’ve been more appropriate. This is a momentous occaision folks — the cases are good enough!

I demand a correction be made. And a sack full of kittens.

      • Mods, please give this person the gold star.

      • It’s not a green light until MWeston or Craigix specifically say so on the forums. :) I have something nice for the occasion, trust me. ;)

        • Sorry folks, jumped the gun there. Or more appropriately, ran the yellow light.

      • I vote Patrick Stewart for official Open Pandora spokesperson! Engage!

      • Perhaps it’s an opera house.

On Battlestar Galactica an opera house was used to symbolize *Destiny*.

  15. Oh and I hope we are not hoping for Chinese “Perfect”..

But the real thing – PERFECT.

  16. penis

  17. “Well, not perfect, but I guess we will have to go with them.”- this makes me worry, I mean, I’ve been waiting patiently all this time and really, at this point what harm would a few more months make? Vague statements like Craigix’s ARE better than nothing, and it could mean something as harmless as “as imperfect as an NDS Lite, minus hinge issues”(which IS pretty good), but until he gives us another truly informative update about the build quality like we have received for the other case revisions it will make this probably feel like the longest and most uncomfortable wait we’ve yet had to endure…

    • the NDSl is imperfect?

  18. Didn’t the factory say OP would be ‘grateful’ for the level of ‘perfection’ acheived on these samples? If that’s the case it doesn’t sound like there’s any scope for improvement. Unless it’s only the silkscreening.
    Another ambiguity bomb.

    • May be the said that in chinese

  19. Nothing is perfect.

  20. They should get a credit note form this shower, sell it to someone who wants Toilet Brushes made and take their contract elsewhere.
