  1. nice!

    • FFFuuu

  2. Well I wanted to… be the first one to post xD

    • yeah… XDXD

      • Haha.

More on topic: This is definitely good to have.

  3. Is that a taskbar I see at the bottom (center)? It’s the only feature I’ve been missing.

    • I have seen it before, like in the early touchscreen demo:

      • That bar is not even remotely the same. I’ve seen an earlier movie where starting apps did not add any icons to the bar. On this photo it seems that the current window have an icon corresponding to it that has been pushed in.

        • I cant remember what it is called but its an xfce panel applet that works like a taskbar but shows icons only instead of full names, You shouldnt be too worried about having a taskbar, though it is probably is impractical with showing long names when having limited space.
          :D

          • I’m happy with icons. I was just wondering if what I saw was what I hoped it would be. Earlier ED have shown multitasking using a popup menu and I wasn’t too happy with that solution.

Thanks for the info lootic :)

  4. So, why if everything is supposed to be ready to just being assembled when the cases arrive, there are still daily changes to the software?

I know that once they ship we can all update, but somehow this seems like they already know it is going to take longer, so they keep making tweaks.

    Just an observation.

    • Daily changes to to software are the Linux way. Get used to it. :) No one ever stops and says “ok, we’re done.” Not until the hardware is old and abandoned. That’s what is going to be so good about owning this device!

      • One of the important things about Linux is that “old and abandoned” does not mean “tomorrow”. There are folks still running Linux on steam powered devices and abacuses. Based on that the pandora should last until your grandkids graduate college.

Also, with this update as an example – bear in mind we had power management already. Now with Notaz’s work (thanks Notaz!) we have better power management. All for FREE!

    • In addition to what Gruso mentioned, Notaz and a couple other developers just got their Pandora, which presumably enables them to work on some of the OS elements.

Theres been a few old mk2 dev boards around, so you can run software on; but without controls, keyboards etc its rather a PITA :)

But somethign to remember.. software is hard (or everyone woudl do it, and games woudln’t cost $80 for xbox); and kernel drivers and such are 10x harder than normal software. And building your own OS distribution, on relatively uncommon hardsware, etc.

So we’re working on things, tweaking, building features on, stabilizing, selecting software to burn in, etc and so on.. continuously. ITs mostly stable, but theres lots of little loose ends to fix, and probably always will be .. as they said above, it never ends :) But we’re still madly fixing up a few things to get it ready for everyone.

(I mentioned to someone the other day.. waiting for a device is torture; but working all your free time on something to get it to peopel is torture.. you just get it all working, but wer slog through all the pain to get it there for ya :) For free no less :)

But especially so for djw and notaz imho; I’m working hard as I can, but those guys are _awesome_ :)

        jeff

        • Everything you guys do for this little box is appriciated. It’s the difference between having a device that you wish could do things and a device that actually DOES them.

The OP team could have just slapped a standard linux dist on the thing and left it at that and hope it works, but instead they’re spending long nights making it as capable and useful as it can be. No one should complain about that.

  5. Many cheers to notaz and DJWillis for making the Pandora OS as good as it is!

  6. sweet! even better then in my laptop :)

  7. Good job! How is the power management?

  8. Great work Notaz. Nice to see stuff like this finally getting completed and ticked off the list :)

  9. i don’t see it? Is it like a where’s waldo?

  10. Has a pandora/xfce repository been set up for these sort of patches yet? Or is the plan to distribute patches some other way.

  11. Thanks Notaz – Look infinitely configurable.

  12. :sealofquality:
The software won’t be put on to the Pandoras until the day they ship.

The software used to test the boards is much more minimal and is what is used during manufacture.

    • That’s what was puzzling me a bit, I wouldn’t think that the software would be on the Pandoras yet. It doesn’t make much sense to put them on until it’s either pretty much done or you’re ready to ship anyways.

At this stage in development it would make no sense to put on software that’s still very much in progress until just before shipping anyways. Best really is to ship with the most stable most finished code possible.

  13. Nice job, another thing off the list :)

  14. I wonder how bug/fixing chain for pandora will be organized: where to push patches, bug-fixes, suggestions who will review them… as there are only few developers/reviewers ATM it is easy, but this group will be 4000 strong in “just” two more months…
