We expected the worst; Chinese New Year would be two weeks, but, a tweet from Craigix:
Chinese mould factory are back at work
Could it be? We have production before we hoped? I can’t say for sure, but this is good news.

That’s good news! Now if they would start right away and would produce +/-1000 a day than they should have them all done at the end of next week and there maybe even time to do the shipping already!
Don’t get ahead of yourself. There are a lot of logistics.
The only thing that would keep me from buying this device is some reviewer saying the touch screen and its perssure sensitivity is not as accurate as the DS-screen, and that it doesn’t do well with painting.
Remember – the DS had the homebrew “Colors!” which totally kicked buttage utilizing that small screen, extremely limited hardware/memory (no undo), with the same 16 levels of sensitivity that the Pandora has. If the touch screen is as good as everything else (!) with the Pandora, then there should be no problem of course.
Oh, and tonight I dreamt I had a Pandora… It was awesome. I remember pressing that bubbly smooth space button in my dream.
I will be thoroughly testing it for painting purposes, as that is one of the major reasons for my purchase!
Is there some Open Source alternative for ‘Colors!’ or are you planning to run it over DS emulator?
How about MyPaint? By default is uses several windows, so it’s UI is very far from portable device.
TuxPaint is not drawing tool but toy for kids, but it is usable on Nokia N900.
There are a couple of Colors-inspired projects in the works as we speak.

There are sure to come one or two homebrews for the Pandora that does the job. MyPaint, as mentioned, would be awesome due to its many brushes and simplicity. Then we have Gimp I suppose, if it doesn’t eat capacity.
So the software will probably be there.
So long as Inkscape works on Pandora, this is what I will be using a lot. Maybe Gimp as well. Some animation software like Pencil or pixel art progs like grafx2 will be used alot. Pandora is going to be my new artpad/workstation

It seems just the “factory” started working and only a few workers are back from home.
I guess their producing capacity hasn’t been back to 100% yet.
It CNY is anything like American New Year’s, better given them a day or two to sober up and sleep off that hangover.
Chinese New Year isn’t over until next week. We don’t know anything other than “mould factory are back to work.”
That could mean the entire factory said “only one week this year”, it could mean a few people returned early to make an extra week of pay, it could mean the foreman is coming in once per day this week to ensure spiders haven’t taken up residence. In any event, even if it is one of the latter and absolutely no work gets done this week on the case, Chinese New Year ends next week so we should see further progress then.
That doesn’t mean they are producing Pandora cases right now !
The only real good new I can handle right now is when the 4000 pieces are populated, shipping and that mine isn’t broken,cracked or unusable for X reasons.
I am patient, but time makes me more critical.
Don’t get to excited yet, just because they are back to work doesn’t mean we will see any big quantites anytime soon? This is the last part of a very long puzzle that has seen many,many delays. I have been excited to many times over the last year, right now I’m just going to assume 2-3 months, and that way if they ship early, GREAT! If not, no big deal. I wish the team the best of luck, there going to need it!
+1. I think it is abundantly clear that the Pandora cases are extremely low priority for this company. It sounds like the crew has already paid the company for everything – so they have absolutely zero incentive to quickly get things done at this point. The fact they’ve spent like 8 months (that right? more/less?) on a 30-day project kind of tells you what they think of this project. I am positive that being back to work means they’re going to fire off moulds for other/bigger companies that want their products quickly because of the CNY delay.
Well, at least a long-ass production queue means they know what they’re doing. Maybe the cases will be as awesome as we hope after all…
Actually, the factory has already begun sending emails to OP Ltd about the cases. That’s how Craig knew they were back at work.
They won’t be starting production today or anything, it’ll be another day or so before all employees are back on board. But it does seem like they’re giving this project some priority.
I sincerely hope you’re right – but they’ve delayed this enough in the past that I’m not going to be holding my breath.
Well as long: “sending emails to OP Ltd about the cases” translates to
“sending the cases to OP Ltd by mail”…

True, this doesn’t mean it’s in production yet… but, if it takes production a day or two to start, then that would be the same lag if they came back to work later. So, by them being back before we expected, we are closer to having them than expected.
I guess what I don’t understand is how they said they only could expect maybe 500 cases due to the fact they had to package and ship them. Really? How’s come no one pointed out that if that was the case (pardon the pun) that that means they could only pack up 26,000 cases in a year. No major plastics company could only package up that little in a year right? To sell a million units of a game system would take more than a decade for a company to do (Nin,Sony,MS etc)
Or were they just trying to tell us that so we didn’t get upset if only a small batch got sent? My guess is the way this company is doing things, they won’t make ANY cases until they can blast all 10,000 of them out. then they will ship them as they get time in between other more important projects. So they may even sit on them all until they have all 10,000 ready to ship. Who knows!? Hopefully not. (it’s good for me to make predictions cause my record of being wrong would be helpful here!

Actually, I already learn the temperature factor in my Water closed and there is a crack (although perfectly normal at this stage). Now I’m willing to send some samples to Texas but don’t forget folks this isn’t the true final result of what I can produce with fresh and perfect ingredient !
Things always start slowly and are pretty hard. But then after the machine is used to that, the rest is coming along rather quickly.
