Monolinguists of Pandoria, you have a new best friend. His name is Fishbong, and he has answered our meek cries for a subtitled version of EvilDragon’s CeBIT presentation. Three videos are done so far, with the rest depending on how much free time Fishbong has, and how much love he gets from y’all. This post will be edited as new entries appear, so bookmark it now, or bypass the blog lag and subscribe to Fishbong’s Youtube channel.

  3. Woo! Thank you very much!

  4. This is awesome! I’m on part 3 now. :)

  5. good work sir

  6. Parcel for Mr. FishBong [love]

  7. Great!

  8. Cheers again Fishbong.

I hope you get time to translate the fourth part with the questions and answers section in it. Could be the most interesting :)

  9. Excellent work, Mr Fishbong.

I think my PC is going a bit strange though. It’s not showing the subtitles on the second or third parts. The first part was excellent though :)

    • Not sure what’s happening there, but I know that the first video has the subtitles hard coded, while the next ones make use of Youtube’s new closed caption function. Something to look into perhaps. :)

      • Yes, it’s the closed captions that I can’t get working on Seamonkey on Windows or Firefox on Fedora here, but last night I was able to get them working on Seamonkey on Ubuntu. Thanks again Fishbong!

Part 4 is excellent as well. Good to see plenty of questions being asked afterwards.

    • I noticed that it wont show them when the players full screen for some reason??

      • in full screen the captions get hidden by the timeline bar, move the mouse off it and wait a few seconds for it to hide itself (great work on googles part there :P )

        • WTF?? I’m sure I checked that?
Cheers for pointing out the obvious :D

  10. Thanks FishBong :) Great work.

  11. gotta agree with the others: awesome work from Fishbong :D

  12. This is why I like open-source communities, people are just nice and helpful. Thanks Fishbong!

  13. For a minute my mind was on “allo allo” :D

  14. The most interesting part is at the end of vid 2, where he says that they’ll gladly release the circuit diagrams once the Pandora has been out long enough for them to cover their expenses in making it.

I don’t know if he’s consulted with MW before making that statement, but this is great news for open source. Maybe the Pandora will be 100% open source at one point after all.

But I personally don’t take issue with them keeping the diagrams of the inner workings of the hardware to themselves, and think getting the complete hardware diagrams is just a bonus because:
    1. open source software is more important
    2. they’ve earned the right to be trusted by the community
    3. they’ve earned the right to make some money of this device.

    • _eventually_

      • we need awareness sessions

  15. Can I contribute Chinese subtitle.

  16. Everyone who has trouble viewing the subtitles on youtube can download them here:
    http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/pandora.cgi?0,0,0,0,23,40
But as the updating process on openhandhelds.org is very slow, the 4th part isn’t in the archive yet.

    • That’s great – thanks fishbong! I’m sure it’s something wrong with the configuration of my computer(s), but that’s really good of you, thanks.

  17. Great videos. Thanks for the subtitles, my German is not good enough to understand everything he was saying.

    • FYI, part 5 is up as of today. Please update the post.

Also, the video mentions the presentation PDF being available somewhere. Does anyone know where that can be found?

      • Nice. Some excellent beards in that ep :)

      • Thanks Ross, will do. :)

  18. You can find the PDF here:
    http://openpandora.org/pdfs/vortrag.pdf
EvilDragon posted the link in a recent blog post.

  19. Any updates, shouldn’t the cases have been shipped and on their way by now?

    • Craig has received some parcels apparently, but we don’t know what they are yet. I’ll post when we find out. :)

In the meantime, some new Pickle videos are incoming…
