It sounds like the OPT’s contact for the cases has been the factory’s work experience guy.
According to this Fatih threw a wobbler and got through to someone else, in this case the girl who handled the TV-out cables, who it seems immediately told him that they still hadn’t finished (started?) painting them, so they can’t be picked up until the 7th. Hopefully this is a bit of honesty for a change.
I new they hadn’t finished the cases even though we where told they where finished. It made no sense otherwise. Lets hope they have finished them and that they are really ready to be picked up. I do think however that they should just get the other cases made, painted and shipped otherwise there’s just gonna be another shit storm when we’re waiting for the next 3000 but I’ll reserve my judgement on that one until we’ve got that far.
If E3 shows the new PSP2 and Nintendo DS 3D Hardware specifications and they seem wayyyyyy better than the pandora’s. I’ll cancel my order. Someone will be hacking the PSP2 and the new DS 3D console. All that interest me on the Pandora is the controller and a full speed SNES emulator. If the PSP hacked had a full speed SNES emulator then I would not need the Pandora. I’m a retro-gamer (NES, Genesis, GBA and SNES) and don’t need much to make me happy.
As for the Pandora team – I wish them the best; you guys have big huebos to pursue a project where you put everything on the line. Most of us would have build a prototype and sold the project to a big company.
I would not cancel after seeing some new toys at E3. But I get the feeling that if the project gets delayed beyond E3 there would be quite a few cancellations. It was originally the most powerful handheld. Now it is the most powerful handheld with game controls. After the PSP2 it might be just be the most powerful ‘open’ handheld with game controls. That is really what I want. It is highly doubtful that a device might come out of left field and be a better ‘open’ handheld with game controls but who knows.
As shiny as the new DS and PSP may end up being, they still won’t have a keyboard and netbook functionality. That’s what so interested me in the Pandora – pocket sized laptop with a joypad built in!

Has anyone seen a photo of the boxes that are waiting for UPS? Make them send one, so they have a motivation to start the molding and painting now. I’ve dealt with Chinese companies a few times, of course much smaller business than this. Still, often enough I had the feeling that asking for photos does work wonders.

Yeah, it’s said that since last time we thought they were painted (but they weren’t). Once again we’re assured they’re painted and ready for pickup – but as you point out, we’ve got no way of knowing they are. It’s not worth keeping up with some of this stuff on the roadmap TBH, it would be a full time job keeping every detail maintained. When something actually happens – like UPS picking the cases up – I will update it. In the meantime it’s just a snapshot of where we’re at.
Ah, I hadn’t seen anything indicating they were saying they’d been painted – just that they would be painted in time to be picked up tomorrow. That’s promising.

from what i understood the pandora won’t be able to munch more data than the throughput of a class 4. you just saved a lot of bucks and owe me a beer.
Although you’d still be able to load stuff onto your card faster from your computer…

Funny, isn’t it. Here we are biatching at the god of earth-pimples that our cases had been delayed, the truth being that the city of R’lyeh could have risen and it would have had about the same effect.

I’ve updated the roadmap with what we know.
Hmm, your roadmap says the 1000 cases are painted and awaiting pickup. We don’t know that for sure yet, do we (and anyway, pickup’s not till tomorrow)?
Yeah, it’s said that since last time we thought they were painted (but they weren’t). Once again we’re assured they’re painted and ready for pickup – but as you point out, we’ve got no way of knowing they are. It’s not worth keeping up with some of this stuff on the roadmap TBH, it would be a full time job keeping every detail maintained. When something actually happens – like UPS picking the cases up – I will update it. In the meantime it’s just a snapshot of where we’re at.
Ah, I hadn’t seen anything indicating they were saying they’d been painted – just that they would be painted in time to be picked up tomorrow. That’s promising.
I don’t expect your roadmap to have to cope with any untruths the factory may be peddling. As always, it’s a useful guide to where we are at and very much appreciated
