Official Blog: A big Thank You!

August 14, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

EvilDragon seems to be sleepless. He looks to be over-joyed with the support the team has received, and seems a bit saddened by some of the negativity.

We sometimes forget the magnitude of what each and every member of the Pandora team has done; It can be easy to be jaded, or lose sight of the point.

In the end: The Pandora is a device born from a community, made by people just like you or I, and it is gorgeous… have some faith, there is a lot of good going on.

As usual, I’ll let EvilDragon do the rest of the talking:

A big Thank You!

What? No news? Dammit!

Well, the boards (200 AFAIK) are on the way to UK due to arrive next week and will be built then, no more news in that area.

BUT I wanted to make a big thank you post!
Not another of those boring “thank you for waiting”-posts (we are thankful, REALLY thankful, but I think I thanked you for that for quite a few times already… and I think you know we are thankful :) )

No, I wanted to personally say thankful for all the encouraging eMails, messages and words I (and the whole team) got from you during the last few days.

Official Blog: Moving forward!

August 11, 2010

Sometimes EvilDragon says a bit, and other times he says a lot. This is one of those times where he must have spent his night up, making a post.

Let’s see… The current nubs are working great, the latest hotfix is looking pretty good. The team is very happy with the last hundred boards, and there and many more on the way. What more is there to say?

As usual, I’ll let EvilDragon do the talking:

Moving forward!

Hardware Production

We were really pleased with the last 100 boards! Only a few failed for different reasons, but the nubs were working fine! So it seems the mechanical testing is a fine solution until the next batch of nubs will be produced with added accuracy.
170 more boards are already on the way to UK, so expect more units to be delivered soon.

Official Blog: Back with good news

August 4, 2010

It seems EvilDragon is back from vacation, rested and giving good news. 100 new units will be in the wild this week. Plus another coding option. I know there are many already, but hey, why not more?

As usual, I’ll let EvilDragon do the talking:

Back with good news

I just came back from my vacation today – now I’m fuelled up again and ready to do more work. And, as promised, more news about what’s happening!

Well, it seems I missed some good stuff – Craig got more than 100 boards and all nubs are working! He already built those units and shipped out most of them, so there will be more Pandoras out there in the wild.
When are the next boards coming? Shouldn’t take too long. The board production company first wanted to ship us a small batch so we can test if we are okay with the nubs now (they don’t want to desolder many more, I suppose).
We are okay with them! So production is finally starting up again :)

Official blog: Recreation Time

A photo of ED's Pandora console at the beach

Despite being on a four day vacation ED still manages to update the official blog with the following message coming directly from the beach of Mallorca.

There is no big news, but a good advice: If you are tired and angry of waiting, ranting about the board factory or defending the Pandora, just take a break for a while. Go outside, do whatever you want, but don’t visit the boards and by the time you get back, refreshed and with a clear mind, the production might already be rolling again at full speed.

The whole team here at PandoraPress wishes ED a good vacation and recovery from all the stress.

Anyway, here is the blog post:

I have no idea whether any of you is interested in what I write right now – but well, if you are not, don’t read up :)

This may not be the Pandora news you’re all waiting for. But for me, it’s an important event, so I thought it will fit in the devblog here as well.

I’m currently on a short vacation. Only for four days… but it’s the first vacation I have since we started the whole project… and boy, this has been a loooong time.

Official Blog: Nub Update Report

July 16, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

It is unusual to get two ‘official blog’ posts within a day, never-mind within a week. However, now we have a third blog post to report.

It seems the company manufacturing the nubs, is one of integrity. By all reports, they are going above and beyond to fulfill their obligations. Yet again, I will let EvilDragon tell it:

EvilDragon on the official blog:

Nub Update Report

Just some quick update report on the Nub status:

The company is doing electrical testing for bad traces, bad resistance in the joystick and is also setting aside any nubs that feel loose or gritty.
I’m pretty sure that test is way better than any of our “move them around for a while to see if they work fine”-testings.

While we don’t know yet if this is related to the few nubs that kept sticking in one direction (those nubs are still on the way to the manufacturer to be tested), it could well be the reason. If the rubber is a bit too gritty or thick, the resistance is wrong and it could lead to a sticking nub.

500 tested nubs (tested in one day! :) ) are ready to be shipped today to the board manufacturer. Shipping takes one day, so if we’re lucky, by next week more boards will be ready.

I’ll keep you updated! :)

See that spike? That’s either Slashdot or Engadget. Even with caching, this blog crumbles under their crushing force.

Edit: I guess you can’t see it so you’ll just have to imagine what it looks like until I get images working.

Official blog: It finally happened!

May 22, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

We all knew it was coming, it was inevitable that someone on the Open Pandora team was going to crack and go insane. It looks like Evil Dragon is the first to openly admit, he lost his mind. Thankfully it didn’t happened until after mass production started.

Though, one could argue the entire team were lunatics right from the beginning, no sane person would willingly subject themselves to what this project has put on them.

EvilDragon on the official blog:

It finally happened!

… I’m slightly maaad!

Well, yes, that’s basically also true… but this time, another thing came true: The Pandora!
Yep, we started assembling and already shipped out some of our babies yesterday! What a relief!

Craig, Michael and Fatih are already working together with other folks to build Pandoras, I’ll join them on Monday. I’ll also setup the webcam when I’m there.
Hopefully, it will work, as Craig told me internet connection in that hall is not too reliable, but we’ll see.

While this certainly is a big step for us, there’s still a lot of work to be done. We have to try to finish the first batch as soon as possible and also have to manage parts and production for the second batch.
Please bear with us if this could take a while, we’re still humans (no cyborgs) and are working as fast as we can.

Thanks to EVERYONE helping us – our devs, our wifes / girlfriends, and – of course – you. The community. Let the fun begin!

Apparently upgrading my blog host software removed RewriteEngine On from my .htaccess, disabling everything. If there’s any issues with RSS or anything let me know.
