News this isn’t, but gosh, it just had to be shared. Asmo, fellow Pandorian and frequent blog commenter, has produced a series of retro themed Pandora makeovers paying homage to the greatest home computers of the 80s (and their boisterous advertisements). If at least one of these images doesn’t melt your heart, you’re doing it wrong. Asmo’s work along with many other er, creations can be found in the aptly titled thread “I think I’ve went insane“. Case modders, are you taking notes?

Retro Pandora makeovers we wish were real
October 28, 2009
Welcome…
September 10, 2009
…to pandorapress.net, the new home of whatever it was that went on at the old one. We trust you enjoyed your flight. Pour a whiskey, make fists with your toes, and get chatting with the locals. You’ve arrived.

New blog feature: Unofficial Roadmap
August 4, 2009
The roadmap is back. Unofficially, anyway. With the case mould a good fortnight into production, it looks like the dreaded Two Months meme may have finally breathed its last. But these things are easy to miss if you don’t drop by daily, so now there’s a one-click status page for those flying visits. We’ll do our best to keep it current, and well sourced. Eyes right, soldier. >_>

A Pandora Update?
July 11, 2009In one of craigixs craziest videos yet; after losing to gravity craig gives us a quick update on the situation of the next Pandora video and reassures us that he’s working hard at it.
(Pandora part starts at 4:54 if you’re in a hurry)

A fake PSP and a fake Pandora
July 9, 2009Posted by: PlopperZ

Craig uploaded a neat video showing off an unrelated Chinese PSP clone and an early cardboard mockup Pandora (starting at ~1:40)
EDIT: Oh yeah, and there’s also an assembled (real) Pandora in there too
Video after the break.

Google Latitude on Pandora – Your friends will know where your Pandora is!
February 11, 2009Some of you may have heard of Google Latitude, the mobile (and now web) service that allows you to broadcast your location with friends, via phone signals. Well, now there is a way to use Latitude on the web, provided you have Firefox, WiFi and iGoogle. Google calculates your position through triangulation and your Wifi signal.

Guess where this is going? Guess what the Pandora has? That’s right, WiFi and Firefox!
So, effectively, you’ll be able to hook up to a Wifi hotspot in a city, log on to iGoogle on the Pandora, and share your location with friends, without suffering network costs! Pretty cool (and a terrifying invasion of privacy) eh?
If you still don’t understand, watch this video for an introduction…
If anyone want to try out the service on their laptops/desktops, here’s the howto:
P.S – It has pinned my location to 10 metres, which is both terrifying and awesomely-awesome.

Off topic video
January 2, 2009This one’s nothing Pandora specific, but is the first video made by a community member, Esn. I think it’s so cool that it deserves a wider audience and due to the seasonal content it might not get that audience for long. Again, if you like this video please express your love on the thread. The video is entitled One Quiet Winter Night.

Referrers and Readers
December 31, 2008It’s interesting to see where the referrers are for the blog. Most come from mazza558’s post and links in sigs.
After that we are getting a fair amount of traffic from alphainventions.com and Netvibes.com. alphainventions is likely to be bringing external traffic – so hi to any newcomers from there! Netvibes is, amongst others things a very good feed reader and an excellent way of storing all your bookmarks on the internet. You can have a nice set up that shows various columns and a magazine format. When used in Firefox in a separate tab you can see how man new feeds there are unread. Worth a try and is my favourite because of the great bookmarks feature.
We are also listed in the information index – which is nice to see that this blog has been recognised as a valuable resource. With over 1200 visits so far today, something must be right. Please feel free to put the links on other sites.

Gentoo; USB charging
December 29, 2008Two small snippets for you.
viridior has posted an update on Gentoo for Pandora.
Great News!
The gentoo.pandora.devs have been able to build enough of an image that we will be able to start exporting it to dev’s with hardware for testing very soon. Checkout gentoo.openpandora.org and specifically gentoo.openpandora.org/index.php/Gentoo-pandora-0.0.1_rc4 to see our current base image software list.
This image is ONLY intended for basic functionality and use. You will be able to add your own software easily by using emerge <software name>. (We are using pre-compiled binaries) That means that you can use potentially anything in gentoo-portage.com/Browse
We will also have our own custom Gentoo Pandora Portage library for Pandora community projects and custom builds to maintain compatibility with the official distro release(s).
Squidge has confirmed that you can only charge via USB when the Pandora is off – I don’t think this is totally new but it’s worth knowing.
It should be noted however that you will only be able to charge the Pandora via USB when the device is Off. USB doesn’t supply enough power (~500mA) to both charge the battery and power the system at the same time.
