Official Blog: Back with good news

August 4, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

It seems EvilDragon is back from vacation, rested and giving good news. 100 new units will be in the wild this week. Plus another coding option. I know there are many already, but hey, why not more?

As usual, I’ll let EvilDragon do the talking:

Back with good news

I just came back from my vacation today – now I’m fuelled up again and ready to do more work. And, as promised, more news about what’s happening!

Well, it seems I missed some good stuff – Craig got more than 100 boards and all nubs are working! He already built those units and shipped out most of them, so there will be more Pandoras out there in the wild.
When are the next boards coming? Shouldn’t take too long. The board production company first wanted to ship us a small batch so we can test if we are okay with the nubs now (they don’t want to desolder many more, I suppose).
We are okay with them! So production is finally starting up again :)

Official Blog: Nub Update Report

July 16, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

It is unusual to get two ‘official blog’ posts within a day, never-mind within a week. However, now we have a third blog post to report.

It seems the company manufacturing the nubs, is one of integrity. By all reports, they are going above and beyond to fulfill their obligations. Yet again, I will let EvilDragon tell it:

EvilDragon on the official blog:

Nub Update Report

Just some quick update report on the Nub status:

The company is doing electrical testing for bad traces, bad resistance in the joystick and is also setting aside any nubs that feel loose or gritty.
I’m pretty sure that test is way better than any of our “move them around for a while to see if they work fine”-testings.

While we don’t know yet if this is related to the few nubs that kept sticking in one direction (those nubs are still on the way to the manufacturer to be tested), it could well be the reason. If the rubber is a bit too gritty or thick, the resistance is wrong and it could lead to a sticking nub.

500 tested nubs (tested in one day! :) ) are ready to be shipped today to the board manufacturer. Shipping takes one day, so if we’re lucky, by next week more boards will be ready.

I’ll keep you updated! :)

Official Blog: Software: What’s happening

July 15, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

Brace yourselves, we have had two official blog posts in no less than 33 minutes!

Now, I know you are asking yourself… how can this be? Two official blog posts, both right away? You might think to yourself, what could they possibly say in such a short time? Official blog posts are few and far between, usually weeks apart. Right?

Well, I’m here to tell you that they contain a very welcome and descriptive insight into the current state of the project. The most recent post is on the software currently available, the software in the works, program updates, and some work on the OS, (plus an extra special feature you will have to read the post for). There have clearly been contributors who went above and beyond, but I don’t want to spoil it for you, and EvilDragon says it so much better.

In case you missed it, here is our previous article about the hardware news. Wait no further:

EvilDragon on the official blog:

Software: What’s happening

Wow, what amazing six weeks!

The Pandora has just been delivered to the first 600 users – and software comes flooding in.

Besides the official hotfixes (where a few contributions have come from the community, too) which fixed most of the bigger problems, quite a few ports, games, emulators, etc. have been released.
So all of you still waiting for your Pandoras: You will have a LOT of cool stuff available ready to play! I know it’s hard to wait – but just think about what you can do with it once you receive it…

See that spike? That’s either Slashdot or Engadget. Even with caching, this blog crumbles under their crushing force.

Edit: I guess you can’t see it so you’ll just have to imagine what it looks like until I get images working.

Blog fixed.

March 31, 2010

Apparently upgrading my blog host software removed RewriteEngine On from my .htaccess, disabling everything. If there’s any issues with RSS or anything let me know.

Blog posts started 404ing. Something wrong with mod_rewrite and permalinks. Changed permalink structure temporarily; RSS feed may be down too. Will fix as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Official Blog Update

March 4, 2009
Posted by: Butterman

Evil Dragon has updated the official blog with more information about the prototype cases. They should be finished by friday, to be sent off for CE testing.

Well, all the errors of the case files have been fixed – and the final prototype cases are now in production!
They will be finished and shipped out on Friday, huzzah!

After that happened, we need to do stability and CE tests as quickly as possible, and if everything is fine, the moulds will be produced.

The production of the moulds will take about 30 – 35 days, however, once they are finished, the company can produce 50.000 units a day… should be enough for us. The good thing is, that the company that produces the moulds and the case is exactly the same company that made the prototype cases, so we won’t have any file export errors this time.

More after the break!

Official Blog: Another Look at the Renders, Assembled Prototype

January 27, 2009

From EvilDragon:

Hiya!

Didn’t find as much time as I hoped I’d find to continue the model and renderings of the Pandora, but here is another small sneak peak smile.gif

I guess you will like it, as it solves the mystery about the LEDs.
Again, click on the thumbnail to increase the picture size a bit.

Also, the FDM case did arrive at Michael Weston’s home and he has successfully assembled a Pandora using the LCD, the board, the prototype battery and the prototype keymat. EVERYTHING FITS! biggrin.gif
I hope he finds some time to make some nice pictures soon!
