Here we have our third independent look at a Pandora, this time from forum dev notaz. This is believed to be the same Pandora that Craig used to stress test the hinge and is also one of the first cases from China.

A few more images have slipped onto MWestons photobucket, the first is of the silkscreening. Check out the rest, along with MWestons commentary after the break.

The first images of the final Pandora cases have arrived. More will be posted as they appear. Click for embiggened size.
Unfortunately, this is not quite how the final Pandoras will look:
The finish on this small run cannot be as good as the finish on the 4000 run. I don’t know why.
You get a sort of oily effect on small runs. But it does not effect the actual structure of the parts or the feel of them. The MP run will be a matte finish.

Just a tiny addendum to the last entry; confirmation from both EvilDragon and Craigix that the final case parts have left China. All we need now is the big thumbs up from Canada… feel free to invoke your deity of choice.

Craig has posted new photos of the parts from the Pandora test injection. Keep in mind that these are test parts, and so aren’t as shiny as the final parts. Here you see the top of the Pandora’s case, with holes for everything. Read more for more photos.

Like a jpeg on a dialup connection, so too appear the parts of our Pandoras. Pictured here amongst the jagged FDM prototype pieces are some butter smooth mass production parts, and you won’t need to be told which is which. The eleventh hour fixes on the last part of the case mould mean that we can’t see every component today, but here’s to China for shipping out what they could, rather than make us wait for the lot. More parts are in transit as we speak, but a weekend stands between us and them.

We’ll deal with the not-so-shiny news first, then we’ll get onto those mysterious photos. The not-so-shiny news is that we won’t be seeing the first production cases this week:
Sorry everyone,
I had to pull the countdown timer. I dared to be brave and got bit in the ass once again.
Craig suggested I was crazy but there didn’t seem to be anything else that could be screwed up at this point and I even factored in a couple extra days.
There was one part coming out of the molds messed up and they were to fix it, make new parts and ship everything tonight. Now, two more molds need the extra treatment and will take a few more days. I’m hoping they ship new parts this weekend but no more count downs. Unbelievable.

Andrewe1 has been hard at work on his embroidery machine making some very nice Pandora and Wiz softcases. He plans to sell some in small quantities, assuming he gets permission from GPH and the Pandora team.
These are just prototypes he whipped up in a day, and he’s looking for input, so post in that thread (source link) if you’ve got any ideas!
More pics and Wiz case after the break.

Some promising news from our favourite Dragon. If you live near DaveC, buy that man a beer!
Hi folks! You’ve been waiting for the weekly report, haven’t you? Well, I’ve been very very busy with various things, so I coldn’t catch up with everything until now. And I’ve got some short but really good news for you:
Dave finished every single step which was on the ToDo-List of the case!
This does mean, that the case moulding could start REALLY soon. We’re currently waiting for a review from the company – and will tell you more about the status as soon as we get some more information!
Oh, on a side note, most parts for the boards have arrived in Dallas (95%). This means that mass production for the full 4000 run can most probably start as soon as we give them a green light (which means: After we tested the 105 boards).

If you read EvilDragon’s recent interview, you might have had some questions about exactly where we’re at with the case design. MWeston droppped into the forums to fill in some of the blanks.
New CNC’d cases should be done in a couple of days if the predicted build time is still accurate. I’m trying to get my own UPS account set up so we don’t have to play “musical chairs” with the shipping anymore. That will probably shave a week off of delivery time if these things can come right to me!
By the way, these ones will be clear so that I can monitor the hinge action, cable rotation and the fit of components inside while the whole thing is together.

BackAssward came across an interview on the German forums, relating to the case. It’s been hastily translated by Spirit and dflemstr on the forums. I decided to use Spirits, it flowed more freely, dflemstrs translation is here. Thanks to both of them!
Flyn: Hi ED. I just wanted to ask, what where those minor changes you had to do on the case? Seems like they were a bit more extensive?
EvilDragon: No, nothing more extensive, why? A few more holes and a few different measurements.Flyn: Holes? You mean the places for adapters and such?
EvilDragon: No, those fit perfectly. The holes for the hinge, the cables etc. Things where 0.5 mm matter.Flyn: Ah yes, that flat cable seems very sensitive.
EvilDragon: No, actually it isn’t. Mine just went through a lot because of the congress etc. It never was fixed [as in fixed on its place]. It had problems calibrating [I have no idea what is meant] (started after GC and went worse). But then the LCD was not fixed either and thus put some strain on said cable. That is not how it is meant to be.
See the rest after the break!

Word has come in from the German quarter that the cheeky little wrinkles that deflated our February CNC aspirations have been ironed out. So the CNC has the go ahead, and all going well it will accompany EvilDragon on his trip to the upcoming Olymptronica gaming festival. In light of this, it’s a good thing they’re making more than one. Somewhere across the globe sits a quiet Canadian who would agree.
Update: Although the CNC will be finished this week, it probably won’t ship to EvilDragon in time for him to take it to Olymptronica. Never the less, he’ll be there with a Pandora devboard and also a Wiz prototype.
