The last mention of production status was back on the 14th, when EvilDragon told us there were 200 more boards on the way to the UK. Those boards are now making their way into cases, and out to customers. This will bring the total number of Pandoras in the wild to approximately 900. As for the next lot of boards:
Also we’re told to expect 500(!) boards in the next batch, so, wow, that will be a lot of work. Not sure we can manage 500 in a week but we shall see.

ps. We’re trying something different on the old unofficial roadmap. No more tables or infographics, no more predictions, just a log of notable events. It’s not even a roadmap any more, but we’ll still call it that. Here.

A little update on production progress, which has been tiptoeing along since 100 more boards arrived last week. Quality checks on the nubs are still a significant slowdown, although it looks like things could be possibly thinking about looking up soon.
The last 25 of the 100 will ship today and tomorrow. It does look like this nub issue is solved for 99% of the units so we can get back on track. Over 700 Pandoras have now been shipped.

I know things are going slow but 170 more boards are arriving soon and things will start to really speed up and those units should be very good quality due to this lengthy test process.

And on the cases:
we decided to order 7000 last month. 1500 are coming by UPS the rest by boat (4-5 weeks).
The 1500 are due here next week sometime (well, due in to customs!).

Well, there’s not much for me to say. This is an excellent and long update from EvilDragon that many of us have been waiting for. It answers a lot of questions about the hardware status, current build state, and everything in-between.

Preparing the big run
It’s been kinda quiet in here lately, hasn’t it?
Well, I hope this will change in the near future and I’ll find more time keeping you up-to-date with what’s happening.
During the last days, it has been so incredibly hot in here… 30°C in my room at night… it was really hard to concentrate on what you’re doing.
Good news: The Cases
4000 new cases have been produced and are being painted at the moment. Over 1000 of them will ship using UPS, the rest will probably go by sea (takes a bit longer, but is way cheaper… and we will be busy with the first 1000 cases until they arrive).
And yes, you read correct: It will be 4000 cases. We will need some for replacements ourselves – and I guess quite a few of you will want to be able to buy replacement cases for modding, etc. yourselves.
Thank god, case production seems to work fine now.

ED has some more info about the continuing production of the first batch of Pandoras:
4000 more cases are produced and currently being painted (hopefully, without the buttons 
)
1000 or 1500 (we still are thinking about the amount we need) will go via UPS and the rest via sea (it’s cheaper. Takes about 20 – 25 days, but it will take a while until we used up the 1500 cases anyways).
As said, next week, we’ll get about 400 boards that will go into the cases we still have.
I get 3200 LCD cables to solder next week (yay!)
At the moment, a lot of preparation is going on – so that we basically only need to stick the boards in once they arrive.
The last 2500 units will be built way faster than the ones before, as we can prepare everything.
And yes, the additional 1000 cases will also be used to sell you modders out there for spare

Caution: These are guesses, don’t be dissapointed when the future happens to be different!

Probably about 650 [have been shipped]. 400 boards coming next week.

Craig on shipping:
They [the Pandoras] will start shipping again next week and we hope the shipping will then continue in a smooth way until the remaining ones are all done. Things will speed up in a major way once we past number 1000.

Team Pandora have run out of boards. Don’t panic, it’s a good thing. This means the first lot of 700 boards, all of which required the manual wifi mod by MWeston, have now found their way into 700 Pandoras! [edit- maybe?] Not bad for the first week of work. (We previously thought they had 1500 boards on hand, but well, we were wrong). The next board shipment from Texas is due to land this Thursday or Friday. It should contain 700 to 800 boards.
It’s been a steep learning curve for the team so far, with assembly and testing procedures evolving as each day passes. Several tasks have been identified as needless time eaters, which could be done more efficiently as the cases come off the line in China. Craig explains:

Wow, what a lot of work! But so far no bigger problems, but lots of positive reports, really assuring us 
I’ve been helping out here for the 2,5 days already, and we’re managing it quite good.
Speed is improving, we don’t make too many mistakes we need to fix and based on the feedback from the first users, we optimize the building process.

One last hype injection as Craig hits the hay. He’s currently having problems accessing GP32X, so he’s been sending out tweets instead. Here they are.
I built a MP Pandora and all went well. This should be an interesting week to come
Michael arrives here on Wednesday morning, which means a 4:30am start for me! Arrghh!
Thanks everyone for the kind words, we have done it, now we just have to build them! Wow, this was a tough project.
I know you want photos but I want, well, sleep. I’m planning video tomorrow. Let’s drink to the good times, red wine, going to my head…
