Official Pandora forum launched

August 30, 2010
Posted by: gruso

As announced via Twitter last Friday, and heartily discussed all weekend on GP32X, the Pandora now has its own official forum. The new forum is a slimmed down version of the Pandora section at GP32X, and will largely serve as an official support channel and news feed, also catering for the team’s other project, the iControlPad. EvilDragon is administering the new site alongside GP32X, and will ensure that all official news is posted on both sites. For y’all, the usual flow of news (official blog, Twitter, Pandorapress) will remain unchanged, so you don’t need to check yet another source if you don’t want to.

Production status

August 23, 2010
Posted by: gruso

The last mention of production status was back on the 14th, when EvilDragon told us there were 200 more boards on the way to the UK. Those boards are now making their way into cases, and out to customers. This will bring the total number of Pandoras in the wild to approximately 900. As for the next lot of boards:

Also we’re told to expect 500(!) boards in the next batch, so, wow, that will be a lot of work. Not sure we can manage 500 in a week but we shall see.

ps. We’re trying something different on the old unofficial roadmap. No more tables or infographics, no more predictions, just a log of notable events. It’s not even a roadmap any more, but we’ll still call it that. Here.

Posted a number of days ago (and shot a number of weeks ago, evidently), Craig gives us a speed run through a day on the floor at assembly HQ. Yep, the entire British console industry in that little room – it’ll either warm your heart or give you a start. Tell us which below, it’ll be fun.

Production update. It’s getting there.

August 10, 2010
Posted by: gruso

A little update on production progress, which has been tiptoeing along since 100 more boards arrived last week. Quality checks on the nubs are still a significant slowdown, although it looks like things could be possibly thinking about looking up soon.

The last 25 of the 100 will ship today and tomorrow. It does look like this nub issue is solved for 99% of the units so we can get back on track. Over 700 Pandoras have now been shipped.

(craigix, yesterday)

I know things are going slow but 170 more boards are arriving soon and things will start to really speed up and those units should be very good quality due to this lengthy test process.

And on the cases:

we decided to order 7000 last month. 1500 are coming by UPS the rest by boat (4-5 weeks).

The 1500 are due here next week sometime (well, due in to customs!).

Software progress, hardware progress

A classy new vid from EvilDragon, demonstrating the current state of Pandora software (thanks in no small part to the Pandora community, who are pumping out the releases). Sadly it’s just going to make you want your Pandora more, but never the less it’s worth heading straight to the source to watch it in 720p. Also, a word from Craig on the next lot of boards, which are set to turn up on Monday again.

203 boards arriving on Monday with the nubs tested (if UPS don’t mess up).

There are 203 cases ready for those boards to go straight in to so they will ship next week too.

Then we hope it’s all go go go for Aug/Sept.

Every few hundred we make we improve the build process, this is very important to get right since we plan to use this case and system for a couple of years.

Official blog: Back from Hell

June 7, 2010

Craig Rothwell, Michael Weston, Michael Mrozek, M. Fatih KILIC

Back from the weekend, back from hell, same same.

Wow, that were some 1,5 weeks in Newcastle, building Pandoras – and meeting Craig and Fatih again after all these years. And Michael for the first time ever! Okay, and it wasn’t hell – but I liked the sound of it, so I used it as blog title :)
(BTW: We hid a group picture somewhere…) (not so well hidden now – gruso)

We had a lot of work to do. It took as a couple of days to setup everything, check out everything is okay and start building the units.

Official blog: Tales from the Hall

EvilDragon reports from the frontlines, and throws in some important tips for new Pandora owners.

Wow, what a lot of work! But so far no bigger problems, but lots of positive reports, really assuring us :)
I’ve been helping out here for the 2,5 days already, and we’re managing it quite good.

Speed is improving, we don’t make too many mistakes we need to fix and based on the feedback from the first users, we optimize the building process.

A thing of Beauty: First MP Pandora in the Wild

May 22, 2010
Posted by: BackAssward

You saw it here first! Well, not first if you are a regular on the forums, but don’t let that lessen your excitement. If you saw this previous post, you’d know that GP32X.com forum mod X68000 has been volunteering at the assembly site. As a result, today he has walked away with the first End User owned Mass Production Pandora. Before nodding off, he decided to grace us with some pictures he took of his very own Pandora.

More pictures from X68000 after the break, plus another production photo from Craig.
