Hotfix #4 released, nub fix looking good too

August 31, 2010
Posted by: gruso

Hotfix number 4 is live. It’s the usual swag of tweaks large and small, notable inclusions being improved wifi stability and bluetooth connectivity. Full details and download on the official support page (scroll down for the hotfix).

And a bit of news too for those still in the queue:

Just a quick message we got from the Nub company: The new nubs that have been produced and tested last week were already more stable than the ones we had before.
They are doing a bit more tweaking and have new prototypes ready within the next few days that will be tested anew.

We’re getting there. If all goes well, Mass Production for the new nubs can probably start at the beginning of next week :)

Official Blog: What? When? How?

“Second verse, longer than the first.”

Hi folks!

As promised, here is our current report about things that happened and things that will happen.

First, let’s start with the most important information for most of you:

How is Mass Production going?

Well, I’m honest here: Could be better – but could’ve been A LOT worse.

All in all, we’re pretty content. And a bit proud it all worked out and there are now real units out there! We can either speed up production but have a bad quality – or work a but slower and make sure the units we deliver are properly working (and that’s the path we chose).

Crackly sound issue resolved

June 18, 2010
Posted by: gruso

If your new Pandora has been dogged by low quality or crackly audio, you may feel better knowing that a handful of others are having the same problem. Feeling better yet? Oh. Well you’ll definitely feel better in about 5 minutes, because Notaz has nailed the fix. The cause of the problem is something of a long story, although nothing too unusual in the world of bughunting. You can read the entire saga by starting here, or jump straight to the solution at post #162. This fix will of course make its way into the next official firmware image, and will also be rolled into Hotfix No.3 (due in the next week or so). Thanks Esn for the tip.

Hotfix Pack 1 and Community Codec Pack released

May 24, 2010
Posted by: gruso

The first units are barely out the door, and OS support is already in full effect with two updates announced by EvilDragon. The first one is a bit of a woopsie; a few packages were missing from the first OS image, so new Pandora owners will need to run the hotfix. Units produced from this point forward should have this fix included. If you’re not sure if your unit needs it, it won’t hurt to run it anyway. The second item (the codec pack) will not make its way into the shipped OS image, ever, so all Pandora owners will need to run it. Both updates are in PND format – just drop them onto your SD and run them.

Official blog: 12 packages, 207kg.

We’re a little late to the party on this official blog post (which went up on Saturday), but today being the Monday in question perhaps the timing isn’t so bad. In addition to some status info on Pandora parts, EvilDragon also gives us a rundown of OS status and what kind of software will be ready to go at launch.

That’s the weight of the packages fully packaged up with painted cases (unless our friends lied to us) – and getting the plane to UK on Monday. Yay!
We’ll probably get a tracking number on Monday (it took two days the last time we got a shipment from China), then we can be sure!

Video: The LCD Gamma Manager

April 14, 2010

EvilDragon’s been scriptin’. In the last few days his Twitter account has announced new scripts for mouse control (hello nubs), user management, and as seen in the above video, LCD gamma settings. (For the unsure among you, these scripts are rolled into the OS and appear to the user as extra options to play with in the system settings). Good gamma settings can improve screen contrast / black tones, drastically reduce ghosting, and as you’ll see in the video, preserve the appearance of those old school games intended for CRTs.

Official Blog: Back on Track!

April 6, 2010

Finally – a new blog post. Wait, that’s ED’s line.

Finally – a new blog post. Did take a real long time, since there was so much we needed to figure out first.

Okay, here is what happened:

1. The WiFi issue – finally resolved

A lot of guys have probably already followed this on the boards: notaz was working on the WiFi driver and still couldn’t get it to work reliable. As he didn’t know what else to try, he thought it could also be a hardware issue – of course, that got us alarmed. Michael immediately stopped the board production (700 had been produced so far back then) to first do more tests with WiFi. We were totally in the dark. If you ever wanted to know how sudden death feels… well, we do know for sure yet.

Video: Kronos, BattleJewels, Mplayer, more

There’s something for (nearly) everyone in this video, as Skeezix shows off his own apps Kronos and BattleJewels, launches a video in Mplayer (don’t worry, there is a GUI for that, he’s just not using it), and throws in a bit of file browsing and PND recognition for good measure. He also gives us his take on the current state of software, in the brief text below.

Some real-world stuff here :) When EvilDragon posted some status updates, some folks loved it, some did not — its a new device, a niche target, for hackers and joe public alike. Some features are rough around the edges, but most of the device works great. Still, thought I’d show a few real world scenarios – run a couple games and apps.

OS Status

February 14, 2010
Posted by: Butterman

The operating system hasn’t been given much attention of late. But the software developers have been working away to get you a stable operating system at launch. The official status page has been updated to include a table of OS features to expect at launch. Most of these will be working correctly by the time the Pandora reaches our grubby hands.

Keep in mind that this is the CURRENT state. A lot of things will be fixed until you receive your Pandora.
